Just heard the news on the radio. The Man in Black is dead.

Along with Hank Williams, the greatest white blues singer I can think of. I am bereft. :(

Time to play "Live At Folsom Prison" I think.

You're KIDDING? Sheesh - I only have one of his tracks (Tennessee Stud - on Jackie Brown OST) but it's great - saw him when he did Glasters (on telly that is) - must have been 1995? He rocked...

OH well - I guess that now means another greatest hits comp then?

The final moment of American Recordings IV takes on the unbearable poignancy I feared it might. His music stands as a monument to an era that is rapidly fading; its righteous anger, ribald humour and unfailing compassion will remain undimmed. A genuine original, a legend.

A great shame, but he'd been ill for quite a long time, so at least the suffering is over.

Dom, you're probably right in your cynical outlook, I'm sure music stores are stocking up on his albums, creating displays and suchlike as we speak. The Glastonbury performance in 1994 was excellent, remember watching that on TV at the time. Got a CDR of it somewhere.

The Live at Folsom Prison album and Orange Blossom Special are both essential purchases, as are the 4 American Recordings albums.

The band up in the sky did quite well this week :( Warren Zevon and now Johnny too.
