Enough of all this negativity and slagging off stuff that didn't appeal to you... what about the kit that you had that you most regret not keeping hold of?

Mine would be the Ruark Templar mk.1 speakers I had for a few years. They were lovely little floorstanders with a burled walnut front panel. Set up properly with the correct distance from the walls and with just the right amount (not too much, not too little) of ballast in the bottom they were absolutely wonderful with incredible transparency and imaging.

I persuaded myself to 'upgrade' to a pair of Harbeth HP3s - which were great with small music but just could not do anything big. It wasn't until I got a pair of Quad ESLs that I once again had the magic I once had with the Templars.

    What's your regret?

I had an old Creek 4040 integrated amp that would be perfect in my up and coming second system. It went to fund an upgrade to an Exposure pre and power combo, that although better in many ways always seem to lack the warmth that the Creek had :(

    umm

epos es11's for a second system, and AE1's, I especially miss the AE1's. I'd love to be using them as posh PC speakers. I think they really appeal as near field monitors for that kind of environment..

Another vote for the Creek 4040, and also a mint condition Pioneer PL-12D I sold to help pay for a P3. They would have been fab in a second system

if we are going beyond the realms of hi-fi then my lexus - i've still got it. it's languishing in my back garden with a flat battery but it's gotta go really :(

hi-fi wise it would possibly be my old nakamichi rx202e i hardly used it but it was an object of mechanical joy to behold.
    cheers

I wish I'd never let my old vinyl collection go for a song in the eighties.

As for kit, well I don't really keep any of it long enough to get attached to it:D

I tend to apply the same rule to the women in my life, seems to work equally well.

I get the feeling that it will soon be my Silverline kit, which incidentally is on sale in the Buy and Sell section...

Since getting my Naim CDP and proving to myself that SACD is a waste of space, nothing really.

However, prior to that I often used to have pangs of nostalgia when seeing an LP12, as I sold mine about a decade ago, complete with all my LPs. Have to say that it really was brill.

My old A400GTE, I gave it to my little brother (I say little he's 30 now) so I could still thump him and take it back I guess.

Nice to have it as a backup.

Plus my Sony 3head Dolby S deck. I hardly used it while I had it but I have some tapes I'd love to transfer to MD and I aint got a tape deck.

    Oh well.

So do I - 'cos then you could have flogged it to me instead (I need a quarter track that ISN'T an Akai 4000 :chunder:

    Mine's two fold, and easy;
Sony Walkman Pro WMD6C - it got broken, and instead of having another one under insurance, I got a prologic processor instead. Two years down the line, when I moved house, a cat pissed in it and wrote it off. Wouldn't have happened if I'd had another Pro!

Pioneer PDS-703 Stable Platter CDP; I like my Rega Planet, but wish I'd instead got the Io DAC and mated it with the Pioneer for a true "digital turntable".

I would have go for my Monitor Audio Studio 20 SE's.

I sold them and replaced them with a pair of Spendor S8 :NADowner: .

I still cannot see what I saw in the S8's - must have been a senior moment I guess.

The MA 20se's really where far better than I gave them credit for.

    Actually nothing:)

I would have said my Audio Physic Sparks but as my Von Schweikert VR-1 settle in, I can see that they do things that that the Spark didn't - and thats before proper stands (IFDESIGNS Tallis   arrive on Saturday.

Maybe I've been lucky but for me every change of bit of kit has been beneficial (sonically if not financially:D )

    Ditto, nothing here either...

OK maybe, just maybe my dCS/Accuphase CDP combo for certain music in my collection, still think it was one of the most analogue sounding top ends this side of LP. ;)

Now how about kit that I've regretted never having yet owned but wished I'd bought much sooner, that would be a pair of Quad ESLs. :)

NAD 3020, which I swapped for the totally crap Audiolab 8000A. What was I thinking of?

NAC 62. Foolishly let this go for the NAC 82. I've made some dreadful mistakes in my time. I think I must've been impressed by the full-width box and the remote.

For me it would have to be a pair of TDL stand mount bass reflex speaker - Chilterns I think. These were finished in a glorious rosewood veneer. I was auditioning a number of speakers at the time and only spend a week with them. I let them go mback to the shop because I thought I'd find something better for the money (I think they were about £350 secondhand). When I realised that I couldn't I went back and they had gone:( . The Dalis I've got now are similar but not as controlled.
