The TAG is like a Mercedes (AMG), powerfull, still soft, very well behaved... the Krell is like a Ferrari, very exciting, but rough at times...

The Krell is very dynamic, everything sounds so lively, I'll say PRAT is quite high, on the other hand the TAG sounds more detailed, particularly cymbals decay slower...

I was "afraid" of its room eq, as one can only adjust thirds of octave, but just one filter at 50hz handdled my room perfectly, bass is deep and tight, just like with TMREQ...

Krell still sounds a little harsh, but it is improving every hour, and as they say it needs 200 hours run-in... any way, I can always change my ICs to handle that...

Otherwise both do pretty much the same, Krell's display its all but unreadable anywhere but close, but I love the small remote wich does everything I need without all the unused keys...

    Antonio,

I would have said that the Krell was more like a Cobra. Georgeous to look at, heaps of gut busting power, but with the subtlety and suaveness of an overweight Rhinosoros and a total pain to live with day in day out...............:duck:

I will stick with the Ferrari comparison, even though I would rather have a Cobra car... :JPS:

The Krell even has red display and red OSD background... :p

if you like the krell more power to you. the only krell i've heard (a 300i) sounded very safe but as i've not heard the showcase myself i can't comment on it.

Speaking of the Krell, it's kind of strange that a dealer here in the middle East confessed to me one time, that they receive a lot of complaints about it always breaking down. If I remember correctly, he told me if its not one of the resistors, its something else. He went to the extent of just recommending a rotel, that they distribute also, rather than buy any Krell. I believe he reported this matter already to the head office.

    regards

Ah that'll explain the Ferrari reference then;)

Seriously, why haven't we had the usual rapturous praise for the new beast, as is traditional when Antonio gets a new bit of kit:confused:

    Trouble tut mill:confused:

    Cammon Merlin,

I only praise when I have good reasons to, not every new bit of kit, unlike you :p, about the Krell, I did praise what there was to praise, and, as mentioned, am waiting for it to run-in properly, it is improving by the hour, I sure will write a full report then... :MILD:

    WM,

It only costs 400 euros more then the TAG I had, and I am sure you agree that it is better value, regarding TAG's situation... :gary:

Also, saturday night it was already sounding pretty good, yesterday I had it running all day, today I will check its progress...

    Osama,

I guess your dealer had a better comission from Rotel...

    Julian,

I am very much impressed with its dynamics, never though a pre could make so much difference in that area... :drum:

No, only pay to get their name on them, à la Ford and Cosworth. Good Swiss stuff! The "Il" of engine manufacturer is Mario Illien of Chur, Switzerland. See

    http://www.ilmor.com/

P.S. Oops, not quite - I see that Mercedes now have a 55% stake in the business, so, theoretically, I guess Merc does supply the engines.

    No Antonio, you misunderstand me.

I just meant that, when you buy something that impresses you (Tag, VDH Mainstream, TMREQ etc), you let the whole world know in no uncertain terms.

Now here, I detect a degree of reticence, you are hoping it will get better as it runs in..........

I accept that there are better processors out there, but I want to buy from my dealer, and I want room equalization, that limits my choices somewhat, anyway, I will not keep one that I don't like...

    you misunderstand also sir;)

I'm not having a dig about raving about new kit, as you say, I do it as well as everyone else. If something sounds better than your old kit (hint hint), you should let the forum know straight away.

So your interpretation of my comments is, as usual wide of the mark.

I was merely pointing out that, as Antonio had not posted in a favourable manner, something was probably amiss.
