It looks like it belongs in a stadium for a rock concert.

From the looks of it, the boot won't close properly either, but I guess that would defeat the point?

Does anyone know what kind of drivers are actually used in huge outdoor areas, like concerts held in stadiums for example? The amount of air to be moved on bass would suggest some seriously large kit is used. Or do you think they might just use vast horns on more modest normal size drivers?

I think they use line arrays these days. Ie a lot of speakers in a vertical line. Using individual phase differences one can then aim the beam of sound at the audience, yielding much higher SPL than with conventional systems.

Those paper 30" drivers look like they would turn inside out in a light breeze. I suspect it's key ability is in high efficiency, like that urban legened underfloor horn loaded sub.

I would wager a well engineered modern 18" driver, with a long throw vmax, would outperform that wall of sound.
