It was 2k, but it's been replaced by the Linn Classic Movie DI (Digital input) which also can handle DTS and Pro-Logic II. The original had pretty limited inputs

hmmm,I have 52 DVDs and only one has DTS.And I dont really watch any VHS anynore,so have no need for PLII.Just simple DVD playback in Dolby Digital

I might give it a whirl

Dave, PLII can be used for more than just vids. You'd be surprised how many TV broadcasts have Dolby encoding and even if they don't, stereo TV with DPLII sounds pretty damn good. Just think, Eastenders in surround sound.... :D

the linn classk movie is nearly my perfect home cinema component if it had recording and dvd-ram capability it'd sell up all my existing ht stuff and buy one with some mini speakers and be done with it. as it is i can;t see the point of getting a dvd player only - it has to record for me now.
    cheers

You need Sky+ Julian, fabulous piece of kit, particularly if you buy the DVDs you want (yuo will never want hard copies from the tele)

    Michael

does PLII sound any better than stereo through a tv?

    saab,
it's more the all in one aspect i like - a 7.1 channel amp / decoder with integrated dvd player / recorder would be ideal. dvd ram is the icing on the cake as it'll do 90% of what sky+ can do and i can keep the stuff i record too.
at present i have a mish mash of tosh dr1 dvd-ram recorder, yamaha dsp e800 integrated into my hi-fi + center and surround speakers.
if i could get a dvd-ram classik then i could ditch all of these and get some cute little speakers nail them to the wall and forget about them.
    cheers

I heard one in Harrods some time back. Despite their staff not having a clue, it sounded really good, I was VERY impressed, even more so for the cash.

Saab, I think you misread. Sevenoaks are selling the Linn Classik Music system for £799. This is prob the going rate judging by the £750 I paid from a shop in Sheffield a year or two back. The Classik is an excellent one-box solution for a redbook music system but does not play DVDs, let alone other audio or video formats.

No. You need a 5.1 AV setup to take advantage of PLII.

    stickman,
thats exactly what i'm on about - although the speakers are a bit mahoosive. still a tad too expensive at 900quid rrp. but wait a year or so and richers'll be knocking them out for 250 and i'll snap one up.
    cheers
