    Hi

Has anyone had any experience of that record cleaning machine mentioned here a while ago? I think it was made in India and only about £200. Was it any good and is it still available?

Yes, that was the one. When you say noisy do you mean like screetching out of tune sitars and headache thumping tablas?

I don't know - that was what was said by whoever had used it (someone here I'm sure). I got the impression it was more like someone turning your car into a convertable with a chainsaw.

Got one, made in Europe somewhere, maybe Germany.
Yes i think it might be Germany, sounds like a Stuka on full dive.
    Yep, effective but noisy

And this stuka-diving chainsaw type noise, would it detract from awarding the okki nokki a full recommendation?

I have a Nitty Gritty Pro and the vacuum on that is very noisy but then again it is a 'cleaning machine', not meant to make beautiful music!!

I made myself a Moth RCM from their Kit a few years back. Works fine but is also bloody noisy but there again most ordinary vacuum cleaners are, aren't they ? I think anyone who is hoovering is subconsciously thinking of the rewarding silence that comes when you finish, in fact it gives you quite a buzz when you switch off - bit like the ubiquitous Salsa/reggaeton music over here in the Canaries. Now where did I out those Kenwood brainsqueezer phones I bought 30 years ago - they might have a use after all if I chop the lead off.

I've posted this review on a few of the Hi-Fi forums, however this is probably the fullest and most up-to-date/edited one PFM Link to Okki Nokki

As regards to the amount of noise that it generates I did put some details in the review however i don't think that it is that noisy and certainly not fearsomely, unless you are easily scared of course...
I'm also not sure what a Stuka sounds like in 'full dive' however as i used to be in the RAF and have spent my entire working life working with noisy Aircraft both civilian and military i can confirm beyond any doubt whatsoever that the Okki Nokki is a lot quieter, ;) :)

I have just got back home from an excellent 'Fife Bake Off' at Chezi's hoose just down the road. I took my Okki Nokki along to show one of the guys it in action as he was considering his future options. There were about 5 or 6 folk gathered around for the short and quick demo and the general concensus was that the Okki wasn't all that noisy at all, especially when compared with some other and more expensive RCM's... Also it is a record cleaning machine, not a TT...

It is quieter than a Dyson DC07 upright vacuum cleaner when measured with an SPL Meter at the same distance. Hope this helps you make a more informed decision...

    Cleaner Suggestion

If the noise bothers you I remember a few years ago there used to be Acoustic Hoods for the old dot matrix printers that worked really well. Maybe you can still get them or if the sizes offered dont suit make your owm from ply and acoustic foam lined. Would be a cheap and quick alternative.

PS note for Sid and Coke.....remember the Linn Axis that got lost in the post....well its still missing....hope your keeping well my friend

    Ok

So apart from being a bit noisy, its a good machine and highly effective. Hopefully still cheap if I can find one.

    Cheers everyone.

    Hello Dave,

LOL, oh well it all worked out VERY well in the end, if i recall correctly.
I'll freely admit though I do sometimes use my 'Linn Axis experience' of how not to send a parcel...;)
