What size banana plugs does this amp accept if it can?

I haver just got some new speaker cable and they dont seem to fit the binding post system that this amp has. Has anybody been able to fit banana plugs to this amp?

Will i have to cut them off and connect them wire only?

I need your help guys please

Apparantly you have to splice two plugs at the end of the speaker connections out with a knife, then you can plug a banana plug directly into them. It is because of some EU law where banana plugs are supposed to be banned why Marantz have done this.

I just run bare cables straight into my amps connections, its a pain when rewiring but it does the job.

sorry for my ignorance but im not quite sure what you mean, is it possible if you could PM me with more details or pics on how to do this?

is it best just to cut the plugs off and connect the bare wire to the amp?

Yep this the way I did it, there is a way you can modify the exisitng conenctors on the amp so they will take banana plugs, somebody told me this on here when I asked the same question, however it sounded very fidely so I decided just to run the bare wire straight into the connectors. They should unscrew allowing you to feed the wire straight into it.

thanks, may just do the simple way and cut them off, stupid marantz

can i email you a pic of the cable to see if its possible to cut them off?

two cables run into one banana plug, when i cut them off will i have to spin these wires around before connecting them into the amp?

Yep feel free, basicaly yes, I should warn you its pretty hard to do, as you will find they keep coming apart, I think when I had bi wired it could take me a good half an hour to connect the speaker cables to the amp.

You mean stupid EU, not marantz's fault.
Some binding posts just have metal plates over the nana plug holes so you can just drill through the metal plate and it works normally. Not sure if that is the case with your amp though, you'd have to have a close look.

Looking at that picture the flex is very thin, so you should be able to easily cut the banan plug off and wrap the two wires together and stick screw them into the plugs on the back of the amp.

If the PM7200 is anything like the PM7000 (which it is!) then the little black caps at the end of the red binding posts can be removed, allowing you to use the usual 4mm banana plugs to help plug in your speaker cable as effectively as possible.

It might not appear so, but the caps can be removed by picking them out with a needle...not that difficult at all really, once you know about it. I did this to my PM7000, and am now making use of all 8 binding posts with banana plugs (I'm biwiring with 4 plugs at the speaker end and at the amp end).

Yep mines the same, I like that pin idea, when somebody told me how it they suggested using a knife, but thinking about it the pin idea would work.

I have the Marantz PM6010OSE and I think the PM7000 use itendical binding posts since they were made in the same factory.

Yep banana plugs just use a screw to hold the cable, all it requires is a small screw driver, in fact you should be able to scew the banana plugs off rather than cutting the cable.
