My girlfriend had a car serviced last week.

Today we were driving down a dual carriage way and the speed suddenly shot up by 10mph, the car was doing about 6000-7000 revs.

She changed down to 1st managed to pull in. She then tried to star the car in neatrual and it was still revving. I suspected a jammed throttle cable put open opening the bonnet I was shocked to see the throttle assembly had came away from the engine.

I managed to find a spare nut and put it back so the car is working now but it needs sorting. Just below this are the HT leads which go into the spark plugs so this assembly would have been removed to get access.

I find it shocking that a garage cannot do something simple like ensure the nuts to a major component is tight.

    As above.

Glad to hear you both seem to come away from it ok, but damn AT! You really do seem to attract this kinda thing. I wonder how many other readers managed to guess this thread was started by you just from the title?

All the best and hope it's fixed properly soon :)

I've just read your post, and i must admit i have a few questions in my mind... first of all, bad luck, although i have mates like you. I go out with a lad every saturday, who insists after i take the mick about how much trouble he gets into that he really doesnt, but strangely, has a new tale every week.

    Anyway, i am digressing.

The cars speed went up by 10 mph on a dual carriageway and this car was doing 6000 - 7000 rpm?

My car revs to just over 7000 rpm. Granted, it may not be a typical average car, but its gearing IMO is fairly typical. In order to do 6000 rpm in 5th gear in my car, you would have to be travelling at approx 120 mph. In fact, 6000 rpm even in 3rd would be around 80 mph... So how fast were you actually going?

Are you sure that in a moment of autoerotic spasam your foot did not get jammed behind the go faster pedal thus causing the throttle assembly to cum away from the engine? So what were you actually doing? :D

The excessive revving happened when it was in first gear. She was driving not me. Basically the car just shot forward (if she had been tailgating you can imagine the consequences luckily she is a good driver). Her brakes need replacing at the back so she also put it in first when she slowed down and thats when it started revving at 6000rpm.

There was a nut missing from the assembly. And no T-Bone she is not called Better and I am not called FranK :D

I take she put it in 5th gear and stalled it. AT IMO the worse that would of happenend is a new engine required.
