    Awesome looking speakers.

Ref your question, I wonder whether it's a moving target, based upon disposable funds that "might" be available in the near future. e.g. "got no funds, things sound fine and that next step really isn't worth it".

The closest I've heard to what I'd call Nirvana was some efficient speakers driven by a pair of Wavacs. Heard that at this years Heathrow show. It's been the only system in a long time that has really made me think "wow", regardless of cost. Not that the Wavacs were cheap, but hey, that's life.

    I think I have..

by simply deciding to step off the audiophile-merry-go-round and just buy something that sounds pretty decent, and as mobsters say on the tv 'forget about it'

new amps and speakers hopefully coming in the next fortnight.

    I'll have to! :D

My money has all gone on bathrooms and kitchens.

I would rather live in a nice house than a hole with a great system now...

Changing priorities and growing up! :)

I'm with you there, you need to be realistic and boys toys are a luxury, not a necessity; I could buy more hifi but then I could buy my kids stuff, no contest (well, most of the time, some stuff they probably don't really need ). But I bet you had a really good look around at what you could get for your pretty decent sounding but presumably financially modest-ish replacements, which also means that you haven't kicked the habit. After all, you're still here aren't you? :D

yeah, the new system will still be 'very good'.. I hope.

I still have my CDP , TT/Arm/Cart, Phono Stage, and Pre-amp.. (didn't sell those)..so that should help make the most of the new stuff.

sold the cd and dac sold and also the acoustats...now i'm in deep sh&*. the sound was great but was missing warmth in the mid region,i was told to look for a aero capitole mk2,or audio research cd3 mk2,or a cec tl1 matched with a conrad johnson premier 9 dac. they are all in the same price range.(around 4000$can)
but i stumbled on an accuphase cd90 and dac91 WOW!! it is full top to bottom!! they is no empty space in those boxes, but the price is higher around 6000$ shipped.it was bought new around 23000$ in 97.
i'm starting with the cd because the speaker I have for now will do,it's diy box with vifa xt18's and scan speak 9700 revelator tweet.in appolito.here 's a pic

it's made of 1" mdf and covered with cherry, stained with a mahogany color and a satin finish.oh and tweeter in the picture is a 27tdf from seas but was changed for scan speak 9700 revelator.

lovely system, I'm foaming at the mouth! Welcome.

Been there... Hifi false credo No 465. "I've just seen X, at that price I'd better get it, surely I can sell Y for practically what I paid for it" - doh. The next guest listening to my hifi will be the bailiff! :)
