NAD S300 for £680 at Hifibitz

They are also selling the S100 pre-amp at what looks a very good price, £270 ish.... supposed to be a very good product. Anyone got experience of it?

The £2K S250 (5x125 THX Ultra) multi channel amp looks good value at £679.99 too!

Matt.

I think so - I also see they are listing Tag McLaren hifi gear cheap e.g. the 125M monoblock at £350 instead of the usual £900 - a pair of those and the similarly discounted PA10 pre amp would be nice. They also have the (£700) CDR20 CD player at £350.

So that would be £1400 for a (nice, neat) system that retails at £3250.

Matt.

Unfortunately I can't currently afford to set up an AV system, but if I could I'd certainly be very interested in the S570 DVD player (£436!!!) and S250 power amp mentioned above.

But returning to the original point... surely someone on here must want a brand new S300 for £680?

I think I'd go for the new Faroujda Denons over the S570...

The S300 doesn't appear if you search the site though. Only the direct link works... is there stock? Anyway... no hesitation in recommending the S300 to anyone thinking of spending anything like that on an amp.

I am kind of wondering how the s300 would go with quads..... or whatever small speaker I might buy if I really do decide I want the space back.

However, several years ago I auditioned the Gryphon (Callisto 5100 I think?) at home, the one the NAD is allegedly based on, and although it was mostly great I found it had a bit of a soggy slow bottom end... that was with yet different speakers though. Ho hum, probably got enough stuff to worry about.

The Nad is a superb amp. If I had the money and they had them in stock I'd buy one at that price.. Compared to the rotel I'm sure it would show it a clean pair of heels in terms of listenability, musicality and soundstaging. Mind you if you did a null test.......

Flame suit on!

gazz - No competition. The RA-1062 clearly wasn't hugely different to the 971mkII. It has a more sophisticated pre-amp stage, remote control and a phono stage, which along with the new casework and heftier controls accounts for almost all of the price increase over the 971 and 972. The power amp stage is very closely related if not identical.

The NAD is quite a step up.

However, and it's a big however, You've obviously got to get everything else right as well. With a £50 pair of speakers the difference between the two amps will be fairly subtle.

I wasn't that impressed with the rotel myself the first time i heard it. The second time it did do better but not as good most people hear are saying yes, it is a good amp for the price, along with the new exposure 2010

This is interesting indeed. If they come in black I would have order one just to hear how they compare to my own Rotel RB985THX. It has been coming to 3 years since I bought another toy. What does THX standard actually mean? Does it means they will end up sounding similar in the end?

More importantly since I never could appreciate the subtle qualities of all manner of audiophile cables it is probably wasted on my deaf ears.

Then again it appears to have blue pilot light which would certainly goes nicely with the Tag processor and if I remember according to one of our resident expert would definitely sound better.

No other colours... otherwise it wouldn't be "Silverline" would it?

THX... it means you paid money to THX in order to have their badge on your product. Sucker! In theory there are performance standards that must be adhered to in order to attain certification, but there are some products where these standards to seem to have been..... "flexible".

Oh yeah! :D

Their finance options are quite nice, the 12 month no interest one especially :) Just need to phone them up and talk it out once their phone lines open.

I chickened out, I'd rather not have to lie to them to get credit ;)

That, and I'd probably want a speaker upgrade: these 602's are probably near their peak as it is.
