well I am going to build an amp kit for the first time, prior, most have been pre built and I have just dabbled.

I am looking at a 300b se kit, so do not really know what is out there...could anyone in the know give some pointers...

Atm, its between the diyhifisupply billies, and the bottlehead which looks tasty,

any others do let me know...and any speakers suitable for these?

Check out the World Audio Design Forum:

    http://www.worldaudiodesign.com/forum/index.php

Lots of self build valve nutters there. Its primarily for folk messing with WAD kits, but last time I was there (a fair while ago admittedly), they were discussing all kinds of different kits. It was all gobbledegook to me, but lots of discussion about various bits of component tweakery as well.

if you want some really nice kits, check out www.welbornelabs.com
used their st70 mod kit, and it and they where great. very helpful and sounded great.

apparently they actually have a sale on at the moment. don't forget that the dollar/stirling rate makes these about the same price as any wad kits!!! currently 1.81 to the pound.

    Hi Ian(Data),

I like the look of the DIYHIFI kits.

Also look at the hifi collective kits..

Why don't you build from a design. I would say this one will take some beating.

There are a few more on this page. Look under the read it section.

Here is another one that looks good.

One of these should be no problem to a man of your talent.

you flatter me, Dean, I think you overestimate my abilities, i am crap at metal and woodwork.
For that reason, I will have to get a pre built type and just put it together.

got it narrowed to diyhifi, welborne and bottlehead ATM

i looked into those three myself, and from what i read else where, the welbourne stuff seems to have the best reviews. the bottlehead stuff has the advantage of being cheaper, and it is supposed to sound great, but it is a bit more basic and certainly doesn't get the waf rating of the welbourne stuff. having said that, i ended up buying my VAC instead of building, but that was for many other reasons discussed elsewhere. i have to say rebuilding my dynaco st70, was a really enjoyable experience and really made me wnat to build more stuff. unfortuantely i need a bit more power than the welbourne stuff would give. ron welborne is also a very helpful guy, and talked me through a number of points that i was unsure about.
