new living voice prototype horns

Excellent thread. I must go to Nottingham soon (not something I ever thought I'd say).

Ian, I will be going back there in the very near future and would be happy to provide a lift. Be prepared to be amazed.

Kevin is the only dealer I have known who can make my jaw hit the floor - such is the quality of some of those systems and the feeling of listening to real musicians without the hindrance of electronics. Both systems I have heard recently have transcended hifi IMO - making listening to great music the event it should be but so rarely is.

And his record collection at the shop is bigger than yours!

Hi,

Nice stuff! What sort of price is Kevin looking at to retail these speakers at?

Hi Dean,

He didn't say for definate I don't think, but I can't remember for sure.

Hi,

Here are some pictures of Kevin's speakers I saw on 6moon.

how was Kimura? Has he finished his turntable yet? And what's with that attempt at a beard :-)
Well, he didn't quite remember who I was, which was rather amusing. Otherwise he seems very well; sporting both the designer beard and a fancy haircut these days...
The TT appears finished, or at least more finished than it did last year...

I think I'll also have to go to Nottingham at some point. Someone needs to tell the Japanese press about Kevin and Eminent audio. Has anyone listened to the speakers without the woofer reinforcement?

Room for one more?

yes,

they needed the bass-horn reinforcement to sound truly special.

I heard that he has a woman in his life nowadays, so that would explain it :-)

Mike, let me know when you're next going, I'd love to tag along.

I assume Kevin has lots of dealings in Japan, importing Kondo et al. I wouldn't be at all surprised if he wasn't planning to start sending stuff the other way, I suspect any serious horn speaker needs the Japanese market.

I'd agree, but you have to remember we were in a very large room - far bigger than most of our living rooms. I suspect the standard units would be highly entertaining in a typical domestic setting.

Kondo is very much a boutique brand in Japan. I think he's better liked overseas than he is here. What Definitive would need is someone with more muscle in the market IMO. Those speakers look just the job to go toe-to-toe with the DD66000 series.

If anyone wants to drop by to mine on the way to Nottingham, give me a shout :D

Edit: I'm in London, East and thanks for the offer. Would be nice to hear those Altecs while you still have them.

probably forever!

I must have been nuts to think about selling them. I love em.

I would like to issue a challenge to anyone within easy reach of London who has a speaker system like this and SET amps.

I see absolutely no reason why you (meaning me) cannot design solid state to emulate the advantages perceived in SET's driving this type of system. I know Tim P did some many years back, I am not sure if he still does them, anyone here with any experience of them?

Anyway I fancy giving it a go as a project, no charge and no obligation apart from ears and speakers. I have some ideas for the project

Richard

Prototype built - I am probably taking it up to Bottleneck next Wednesday.

Very happy with the sound and music, but it is humming a little. I built it into an AP20 case and there really is not enough room in that case and with 6 power supplies there is a lot of EMF floating around to pick up.

I have production ideas if I decide to put it into production. Monoblocks with external passive pre. All based on a chassis the way a valve amp is as opposed to box construction. Similar to the old Statement Range as you can see at http://nva.sclnz.com/ link to archive. Though not chromed alluminium again (just too bling, and a bit of a piss take at the time), this time black polished perspex. Transformers mounted in the turrets.

More ears are welcome to join in, the more the better AFAIAC.

Richard
