new living voice prototype horns

Hiya

Place is a bit small for more than 2-3 people in the living room (only one seat sounds good too!).

I'm moving house in about a month, would rather wait a few weeks and do it at the new place which should be bigger.

Also, Richard might need the first visit for 'tweaking' and perhaps a second visit when all is complete and ready might be better anyway.

Perhaps if it's just you Richard on Weds, and we can look at a future visit in the new place with more people to hear the differences.

Cheers
Chris

But I looove Samosas, can't Dev come :(

I once bought 20 veggy ones to take home to the wife from an Indian cookie shop near Golders Green. I was living in Buntingford at the time, by the time I got home there was one left - buuuurrrp!!

Anyway no on-site tweaking just listening. The only thing that needs tweaking is that low level hum, but that needs a bigger case. For me the exercise is to compare with a valve SE and if it can compete with it, and to experience what changes when used with very efficient loudspeakers.

You 'd be welcome to try it on my Impulse H2's Richard.
Big 3 way with horn loaded bass and mid drivers. Easy load and 95dbw.

You'll know the speakers - the ones JMH used reversed and firing at the wall :)

Thanks for the offer Rob, I will be in touch.

Drat! Should have snapped them up during that brief window of opportunity :D (Actually, I have a story to tell you about the B15a)

How are you getting on with the B15a ?

Have you downloaded the software from the Revel site and used it with a multimeter yet?

:)

Here's a link to a website to a German company that dores high end horns (German language only, I'm afraid). They use TAD drivers. I hope to get a listen in the not too distant future.

they do look smart indeed. I love the look of the ones at Definitive too but for different reasons.

Shame I didn't get a listen when I was there. Next time.

I look forward to hearing your report Markus - they look very nice. I have not heard fully horn loaded TAD's but units like the TH/TD4003 sound far more like a good 'stat than they do Altec or Vitavox to my ears.

Hmmm. Let's hope they sound nothing like these... Which take TAD drivers and make them sound... absolutely awful.
Proof that there's more to speaker design than a CAD application and a a number of idee fixe.

I'd forgotten about those. Yes, very disappointing. Have they brought them to market yet?

Oh yes, they are very much for sale. They even have some "budget" models now that use EV or other budget drivers.
The whole lot are quite awful, sadly.

They are prototypes of a new horn speaker Kevin is developing at Living Voice.

You have a bass horn similar to the original Air Partner, with a Vitavox 15" driver, Vitavox S2 with a new ply horn, a JBL 2405, and the huge gigantuan things either size (four feet deep!!) house 2 x 12" paper cones each (they are horns).

The horn/2405/15" give immediacy and transparency in the way only a horn can, and the gravitas added by the wardrobe sized folding bass horns is unbelievable.

Possibly the best system I've heard.

No, actually yes it is the best system I've heard.

FYI,
Resolution Audio Opus 21, Kondo 1000 pre-amp, 4 x Kondo monoblocks for power (2 for the bass cabs, 2 for the satellites).

Result -

I want to move house somewhere I can accomodate huge massive bass cabinets, to go along with my Altecs.

If you live near Nottingham, go along, but be prepared to sell your house and buy these to put in a rented flat..

hearing is believing! :D

Anyone has an idea why the original Air Partners ceased to produce?

Anu, if you ever find yourself in London you are most welcome to come and listen to my horns.

I have meant (for a week or so) to put up the pictures I took at my most recent trip to Kevin's place - Definitive Audio in Notts.

The latest development is really quite something - to put it in rough perspective, I think I heard around £200,000 worth of hifi!.

I'll write a long post and put picture up when I can do it justice.
