Seem to have devloped a 'russelling' sound on my alps pot when I adjust the volume. The pot has had the shunt mod. I actually spent my hard-earned on a new one yesterday and the same thing happens. The only thing Ive done recently that could have an influence is to remove to 047uF caps that follow the pot. This has made quite an improvement to the sound. It is only when I adjust the volume though and it seems only when theres no source playing (well I cant hear anything in the music). Once I stop adjusting the noise stops, bit strange really. Any ideas??

your hearing the movement of the wipers over the uneven carbon tracks....if really bad it can sound like a crackle, or reallydirty. I should not worry to much....try adjusting the volume only when the music is playing .

Have you tried cleaning it with a switch-cleaning aerosol? I like to take the pots apart and clean the wipers and tracks with a cotton wool earbud dipped in alcohol. Voila!
