I get a very loud noise when turning the volume pot on my dad's Linn Intek. Also I imagine the caps have probably seen better days, they must be around 15 years old now. Worth replacing or is the amp not worth spending any money on?

Well if it's otherwise doing all that is asked of it, why not just fix it? Pop the top, have a look at the parts required and price-up at, say, Rapid Electronics or even Maplin - bet it's a lot cheaper than a worthwhile replacment.

I thought given the age and it being Linn, the components might not be so easy to get hold of so consequently may not be cost effective.

I bet you can buy better caps than the ones linn fitted ....it would have been down to a price too ...

try some switch cleaner in the pot ....[unplugged of course ]

The Intek isn't a bad amp at all. At least as good as an 8000A. Try the switch cleaner on the pot, if not find a TV repairer or the like, they'll probably be able to sort it out. I'd be very surprised if most of the parts weren't generic
