    Hi,

    I've been offered a 10 y/o Quad 606 MkII for £200.

I may use it to power my second system and want something cheap to hide behind the couch (source is SB3). Speakers are PMC OB1's and they are only really played at "medium" levels at worst......the Bryston 4B is used on the JBL's...:)

I have no idea if that's a good deal? Seller want's rid of it so will eBay it if I don't want it.

That's a lot of amp for the money (an easy 200W into 6ohms) and the price looks pretty fair to me given that the older 405/2s go for that or slightly more...

I agree and I have seen the 405/2's go for £200-250.

The seller said he paid £390 for it on eBay a few years ago. Also, reckons Quad serviced it before xmas but will need that confirmed. He has box and manual (actually a 909 box but a perfect fit) :)

I am not really worried about whether it is a perfect match for the OB1's . I just need a workhorse amp and the room they in has crap acoustics anyway so I'm flogging a dead horse getting anything more exotic.

It's a workhorse, and should be a reliable one at that...

    How much?

I can't afford them (cos of the divorce if I DO buy them:D), but I'm sure a number of ZGers are curious:D.

£1500 and they need a bit of work...

Prices on JBL gear from this ear are starting to appreciate nicely.

I'm trying to build a collection myself. Gave up on all the new gear for listening to rock...speaker technology from the 80's is good enough for me. Heaps of fun digging up this vintage stuff too!

p.s. they come with grilles if that'll make the wife happy.

Ha, thought that might get you interested in hi-fi again...:D

The price even includes 4 x 2235 recone kits and they cost a bit. I don't think the woofers need to be done yet but it's a nice bonus.

They are one of the scariest looking speakers I've seen...actually these JBL's are a bit more scary and they are actually designed for the domestic market...

    Hey,

Just snapped up these off eBay for £460.

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI....MEWN:IT&viewitem=&item=120107192088&rd=1&rd=1

They are located a short drive from me...good thing as they weigh 65kg each. I was lucky enough to inspect them before bidding and they are 100% mint. I would have gladly gone to >£600 if pushed.

They are JBL L250's (the seller has shown the almost identical 250Ti's in the advert) but still a classic design in their own right.

Yep, they sure don't make gear like that any more, not for £460 anyway.

If I was to pair these with the £200 Quad I just bought, there's a system that really grooves for £660 (and has looks that even makes women stop and have a "feel" of the cabinets...I've given up counting how many women have commented on the look of my existing 250Ti's).

    The Quad arrived today.

What a great little unit. It's actually smaller than it looks in the photos which is great for me as it will be hidden behind a couch.

As expected, it sounds different to the Bryston 4B. The Bryston can really dig out the low bass information from a recording but the Quad is no slouch either.
