is it just a slight bent canterliver ? you could try and straighten it with a pair of pliers ...long nose and carefully.

Or claim on your house hold insurance if you have accidental damage ....you will normally have an excess to pay depending on how much depends on if its worth it.

You could contact any of the retiper that are arround maybe they can provide another option.

Dynavector also used to do tradeins on the old carts you could look at that.

finally as a last rsort you could throw away !

I bent my old K18 and just bent it back so it looked straight...didnt sound any the worse for it, although it was on its last legs anyway.

Give it a go, you cant use it as it is.

Tried bending it back, no sound at all :(

Just saw a place that will do a trade in so will probably go for that.
Don't really see the need in messing with the insurance it would probably more hassle.

The only problem with re-tipping is because its an MC it might cost more than the cartridge is worth.

    Ah well lesson learnt

All Dynavector carts get a trade in for a new one.I might be able to get a new DV17D2 for 100gbp less than UK price. You get 65 Euros off a DV10x5.

Kanckered old carts are good to keep if only because you never know when they might be useful for exhange. Most companies operate some sort of exchange scheme.

A retip is an option, but I suspect it'll cost almost as much if not more than a new one, especially if you used the exchange scheme.

I broke the Stylus on my Shure V15VxMR last year whilst cleaning it. I claimed on my house insurance and got a whole new cart (RRP £325) for just the cost of my policy excess - £60. It was my first house insurance claim for years and years so i felt justified in doing so - it's what you are paying for....

I know how you feel though, it is a horrible feeling. I nearly trashed mine again a few night ago whilst re-checking my cartridge alignment. Luckily i had the stylus guard brush down and so the stylus was partially protected and didn't suffer any damage. Delicate things cartridges, i don't know whether i would have the nerve to run a really expensive cart...

He he - another Dom with a 10x4 issue...

I have the 10x4 Gold (limited, hotrodded version of the 10x4). One day, the cantilever/stylus assembly "disappeared" between records. Literally. Like Kaiser Solze (sp??), like that, it was gone...

I'm seriously considering trading the body in for a 10x5, but this'll still be far more expensive than the Denon options (DL110 sounds tempting...).

Damn those metal cantilevers; as with hard V soft contact lenses, at least if you break a boron cantilever it is totally fooked, rather than "repairable", and thus potentially able to damage your records from being out of alignment....
