What makes you think there's such a thing as a "definitive recording" of anything?

Three really good, vibrant recordings of the Chopin are

    Artur Rubinstein and Skrowaczewski

Krystian Zimerman and Giulini / LAPO

    Maurizio Pollini and Kletzki

BTW enjoyable as the ctos are, Chopin's solo works are a lot richer, musically.

I would agree with that, however the Pollini/Kletzki is my favourite of the Concerto No1 recordings.

I've got Martha Argerich with Dutoit on EMI, and it's very good. I'd hardly call it 'definitive' though - designating a performance as 'definitive' can only ever really be a personal thing, as in a performance which for you really captures a given work, and such a designation will inevitably change once you hear one you think is better.

I also have the Argerich / OSM / Dutoit (EMI 724355679826) and very enjoyable it is too, one of my favourites. I cannot say whether it is definitive or not as it's the only one I've heard!

I post this here because Ya-Boo told me to get the CD but anyway, I just put The classic FM hall of fame 2006 CD that came with the last issue in my computer and Windoze Media Playa' thinks it is 'Tina Turner, All The Best Hits' With Mozart Symphony No.40 being 'I Don't Wanna fight'.

    Bit of a giggle :D
