    CD lathe update

Hi - not wishing to cause protracted debate again - but I promised to report back when I had taken delivery of the glasse lathe, a few of you were interested.

Well. . . . . I have taken delivery of the glasse lathe, I have started to lathe some CDs and the improvement is as I suspected it might be from the few samples my friend sent me. Gobsmacking. It's one of the single biggest upgrades I've ever had and ironically it doesn't sit in the system.

There you go - believe me or not - all I would reccomend is if you would like to hear your Cds sounding even better try and listen to one. BTW please note I said listen rather than spout wisdom about something you've not tried, this thing works.

These retail for £320 - but I managed to find an ex-dem model for £250 as did friend of mine. They are very rare second hand as people that buy them appear to keep them (funny that - maybe they work), I was looking for a while but ask around the dealers. Alternatively why not club together with one or two people and treat the thing like a shared record cleaning machine.

Pix of the unit etc here:

Had a read up on the site, such a small amount of material removed !.... Have tried buying two new identical CDs. Treat one and then do a back to back comparison ?

Actually you can even tell the difference with a lathed CDR copy without wishing to go down the route of CDR versus original regarding quality maintenance.

Anyhow - bowing out of this thread now as feel rather over-lathed - but my final word, having lathed a few more, is to go for it - despite the seemingly ridiculous action of shaving your CDs all i can vouch is that it makes a big difference. I am wondering whether shaving off my beard will make me sound better too:D

I'm not sure if I understand you correctly there, but if you're saying what I think you're saying, then this whole lathe thingy begins to make sense. Or nonsense depending on your point of view.

I'm surprised that no one has thought of DIYing a lathe, it dosen't look hard, as there isn't any cutting edge parts

Is it really that much better than Auric Illuminator or other tricks to paint the edges green or black?

I have the pleasure of owning the Nespa and it is spectacular! Much more 3D images, much more involvement. Stunning!

An answer has still not been given to why this does anything at all for instance if you manage to trim up the edges but it was the centre that was off, then reasonably it has not done anything at all, the digital lines of the CD are still going to be out in comparison to the centre of the CD no matter how much lathing you do to the outer edge.

Seem to me you can only improve a few CDs, i.e ones that were perfectly centered, perfectly written but with a wonky outer edge.

I think the most important is avoiding reflections, centering the disc I think is a side effect, as I understand by their explanation...

Will the Nespa still improve over this...

The Nespa does something else, so all these devices have a cumulative effect. You should first use the Audiodesk, then the Nespa, then use Auric Illuminator and then degmagnetize the disc once in a while.

    I am not kidding! :JPS:

    Odd......

At the recent nottingham calling we did a three copies of the same disc with 1 no change 2 cd fluxed and 3 auriced

the only one to show any slight change was the cd flux over the control disc.......

personally I was very disappointed in the auric ...having heard such good things.

I'm very intrested in a cd lathe any more info ?
