I love Rush's music and have many of their albums. I went to see them on the 'Roll the Bones' tour in about 1991/2 at wembey arena. Have to say that although the sound system was crystal clear, totally distortion free , powerfull and simply brilliant the concert was a bit of a damp squib, with not too much atmosphere. The venue seemed to be full of 'nicely' dressed people who wanted to let their hair down but just couldn't manage it. The 6 or 7 rows of die hard fans right at the front seemed to be having an OK time but at the back it was like watching a video in full surround sound. Neal Peart gave one of his brilliant drum solos, rising up in the air, with drums spinning and lasers blazing, probably the highlight for me. We left early.
My favorite album of theirs is Signals, i like space shuttles and spotty dogs. My advice would be to drink heavily before you go.

Jesus!!! are they still gigging??? I'd have thought they'd have got their pipes, slippers and walking sticks by now. Good stuff though - was listening to 2112 at the weekend.

must say that 2112 is my favorite rush album although the 1st track from roll the bones is up there too although the rest of the album is a bit of a let down afterwards.
anyone got a web address for tour dates and locations?
cheers

julian

My thoughts exactly too!

Not ever seen them live or heard any recordings of their concerts, but having said that I was drawn into the little portable callapsable room/den that Elac were holding their a/v dem in at the Bristol Hi-Fi Show last weekend. The sound wasn't much to write home about, although the DVD "Rush - Live In Rio" caught my attention enough to make me stay in the room to watch for a number or two. :MILD:

Any recommendations for live albums available on CD/LP?

Have a look at the Triple cd set Different Stages
It has 2 cd's of the test for echo tour and a bonus cd of the "Hemispheres tour" good stuff

Oh by the way I am in the Glasgow chorus on "Exit Stage Left"

Although Exit stage left is quite a good Live album, there there arn't any tracks on it that I prefer to the studio versions. The studio versions just seem to have more impact to me.

if you like Prog, just get 'A farewell to Kings' or 2112. If you prefer a bit more brevity 'Moving Pictures'.

Most Rush albums can be had for £5 in MusicZone.

Great band. Glad they've finally managed to make it back over here for a few shows, Birmingham on Sept 11 looks like a good bet, being a Saturday wouldn't need to take any time off as well...

well lets hope Alex stays out of prison,or you will be wanting a refund.......................

ps i went of Rush when Spirit Of The radio was on TOTPs with Pams People:rolleyes:
