with all the comments about the 'wallpaper' (curtains) in my room i'd have thought wallpapering them would have been a bad idea. although some of that brown and cream furry fleur de lys stuff from the 70's would be quite nice, no?
    cheers

great idea. You could paint the wallpaper the same colour as the walls, and make little curtains to cover the drive units using the same material as your curtains. A remote control could draw the cone-curtains back when you wanted to play music.

    :D

    Building S4TLs

    Hi all

Well I have my 4Tls powered up this morning and it was worth the effort - but there was some sweast and tears last night with fitting the actulal drive units with the Tnuts popping out.

So now they are up and running on my Nauim kit and the piano feels like it is next to me. :D

If any one want some guidance on buildiong IPLs give me shout.

    gideon,
excelent. i'm still waiting for mine to arrive - why do friday deliveries never seem to make it? still it's given me a bit of time to clear some space in the spare room ready for construction. hopefully they'll be here tomorrow when the enormity of what i've done will probably crush me like a bug :D
    looking forward to it though.
    cheers

    Julian,
Have you got shash clamps for clamping the panels whilst the glue dries?

i have been advised by ivan and others to use the hot melt system (basicly hot gluing dowels in place to hold the panels in place whilst the wood glue dries - the hot glue dries in a few minutes - it also provides aditional internal bracing which is no bad thing too)
    cheers

    S4TLs

    Hi Julian

Yes the hot glue method really works well it did for me. I did not use any calmps jsuta few paving slabs to clamp the final slide down. I constructed them out of rather unorthodox materials. The internals are all 18mm MDF and the carcass was out of 25mm harwood ply. They have come up a treat - but are 14mm bigger ina ll directions! Bid and heavy.

The only real problem I encountered with this approach was th at the bolts and T nuts were not quite long enough resulting ain a few temper tantrums last night, with Ivans recomended sizes you should not ahve a problem. Come the motrning sussed a solution and the now they are singing.

To see the inside of a box see - http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/cmelhuish/speakers.htm

The overlal sound is on wonderfu - even easy listening is exiting - you can haer tha bass, feelit as an overall part fo the misic. I used the resistors that Ivan supplied to give a a slightly higher treble output and have not used any long haired wool to tione down the bass. In my small room they sound like the music is there part fo the room almost sourseless.

Let me know how you get on and if you have any other questions.
