    Hi,

I am Harteman from The Netherlands and I am new on this forum. Recently I made my first steps into real Hifi by purchasing a 3 year old NAD S300/S500i/S400 set. This choice was also based on threads about the NAD Silverline series I read in this forum.

As I am playing on my old Tannoy MX2 ( :( :( speakers and I also want to upgrade my speakers, I need some advice about what bookshelf speakers are a good match to the NAD Silverline.

In searching the net I might have read somewhere that the Dynaudio Contour 1.3 MKII is a fairly good match to the Silverline series. Every advice is welcome!!

Please note that I am looking for bookshelfs and not floorstanders, as floorstanders to not integrate in my interior.

    Many thanks for your support.

    Harteman

    Hi Harteman,
Welcome to ZG. Nice choice of equipment :D

As for matching speakers, I'm sure members more qualified than I am will come up with sound advice. I personally would love to own Thiel CS2.4 speakers

    Cheers

    Sir Galahad,

indeed a very nice speaker but not quite a bookshelf!

But a Thiel PCS might be a nice standmount solution.

    Nice car.

    Standmounters eh....

Personally I'd be looking for a pair of Meadowlark Swallows, but they're rarer than a rare thing cooked rare.

PMC might be a reasonable match. TB2+ would be the one.

    Dag Harteman,

    Welkom bij het forum.

What's your budget? The best standmount I have heard by a country mile is the Merlin TSM-MX. Not cheap or easy to get hold of, but very special indeed.

    Dag Robbo,

    dankjewel voor je welkom.

My budget is about € 1.000 and I'm looking for a 2nd hand pair of standmounters. They will be placed max 50cm from the back wall with enough space at the sides. I do not know if these "limitations" have a big influence on the speaker choice.

    Hartemann,

Do you live in Ochten in Gelderland? I have friends in Dodewaard and in-laws in Veenendaal/Ede. Nice part of the world.

I think the the merlins would be outside your budget. Shame becuse here is a review http://www.tnt-audio.com/casse/merlin_tsm_e.html.

I guess for other speakers, you could try ProAc Response 1SCs or the new studio standmounter (dont remember the name), Dynaudios will be worth a listen too. I dont do PMC, but you should try to listen as you may like the sound.

    Cheers, Robbo

Yes Robbo, Ochten Gelderland which has been famous all over the world with the flood in February 1995 (even on Japanese TV!!).

My brother lives in Dodewaard, my wife has lived in Veenendaal and my sister-in-law is living in Ede!

How small the world can be?

    Thanks for your advise.

    Cheers

If you can stretch a little to about £800, I have seen a number of pairs of Revel M20's advertised.

Obviously not up to the standards of the Merlins Robbo refers to, they are a fabulous standmount in their own right, and at that price, make a lot of the competition seem massively overpriced.

ditto for the revel m20s - maybe even an exdemo or audiogon pair of m22s.

I have never heard a bad revel speaker - if I had the room I would probably go revel.

Music played will be mainly Symphonic / Rock (Dream Theater / Zeppelin / Purple) but also Norah Jones and Katie Malua is very nice.

So various music with various demands for your system.

    Hi,

anyone familiar with the Sonus Faber Minima Amator?

A pair is for sale now for € 1.250. They look nice, but I don't know how they match to the NAD?

    Cheers,

    Dynaudio 1.3, 1.3SE or 1.4
Blindingly good standmounts with a very natural balance

    Well everyone,

It took a while but yesterday I purchased a very nice 2nd hand pair of the Dynaudio Contour 1.3SE and I must admit: They sing!!

Very nice detail, soundstage, and excelent bass if you consider the fact that it's only a standmounter.

The S300 has absolutely enough power and drive to make the difficult Dynaudio's sing.

The only upgrade I need now is a good speakercable.

    Anyone advise??

    Cheers,

    Harteman

Well, I don't know the NAD silverline series myself, but I am quite enthousiastic about Nordost cables (especially the new series). Or, if it shouldn't be too expensive, try QED Silver Anniversary.

Veel plezier met je Dynaudio's !!

I'd suggest you PM Michaelab as he has some Dynaudio Ocos he wants to get rid of. I think he want's £100 for a 3.5m stereo pair and you won't find a better cable for Dyns anywhere near that price.
