My Rega Ear seems to be very warm to the touch, even when nothing is playing through it. Yet for some bizarre reason, it randomly seems to cool down, and then warm up again. Any ideas what this could be?

Thats the thing, I am happy with the way it sounds, but this problem (not that it really is one, while it continues to work) is puzzling. Anyway, I've bought a regulated PSU for it. I wont get rid of it in the forseeable future - I've got a car in desperate need of a tune up ;)

Just like my laptop, when the fan cuts in and out.

Does it have any protection circuits which might be cutting in to cool it. I know it doesn't seem logical for a headphone amp but unless it's faulty I dread to think what else could it be?

Its getting all hot and bothered about your allegiance to NUFC.

Swap to alternative club SAFC for a happy and contented phono stage.

    Very good Paul ;) .

You know Chelski is the only option :D :p ;) .

Seems you couldn't even beat the 'tic last night :( .
    Shearer & Kluivert ?
Can't really see that one working for a while (if at all).

But, back to your EAR(s) :D - I'd have a word with Rega and ask them if it's normal. Did any of your other headamps have this problem ?

My Ear runs hot to the touch sometimes as well - but mine's the Mk1. I opened it up last year when I was having problems (it was the damn DIN lead and unbuffered Tape out in the NAIT, NOT the Ear!) and the thing's chock full of nice discrete components and regulators etc - there are even some little heatsinks in there. I don't think you'd need to worry, but maybe give Rega a call -they're very helpfull :)

BTW - those Beyers are just getting better and better :)

No No No. I am a loyal toon supporter, not a glory hunter (and lets face it, how could one be a glory hunter supporting NUFC). I didnt see the match last night, but I heard they got a lucky goal. We never do well in pre-season friendlies anyway. If the match had meant anything, I am sure we would have whooped their asses :D

Cheers Dom, I am assured now there is nothing to worry about. Glad you like the Beyers, they've got a good groove going havent they? :)

BTW I bought a regulated PSU for it and should get that today, so we'll see what difference that makes tonight :)

Let me know - I'm VERY curious! I heard that someone'd modified a Naim PSU (think it was a Snaps) to run the Rega, with excellent results; should be interesting to see if yours is an improvement :)
