Okay, Ive never had the slightest desire to visit our capital city but a friend is moving to Kew on the wkend of 5th Nov. Unfortunately for me she cant afford a removal company so muggins is hiring a truck and doing it :( . Anyway, as I'll be doing all the loading by myself at this end Ive decided to let her and her mates unload at that end. So, Im hoping for a day or poss two to have a wander. So, what do you recommend I head for??

That was the first one to come to my mind, but as Im not a garderner apart from cutting things I wasnt sure. Ive got my tube map and a bus route map at home ready!

Worth going to tate modern and wandering around to look at parliament and the eye. That area is worth looking at.

Does kew still have that glass exhibition on? You should go and see that

Just spoke to her, she's actually got a flat, sorry, apartment, 5 mins walk from kew gardens. Its on north rd, right next to kew gardens station. dont know what the 3 stop thing was about.

Remember when they say parth they are not trying to take the mick, they are simply trying to pronounce "path" :) Oh and expect to pay between £2.60-£3.00 for a pint.

Sadly being the pilot of the van I wont be drinking, anyway, as a very light drinker and then only red wine or real ale it'll be a cheap do! apparantly she's got police permission to park outside

Probably within 2 minutes from my cousins house then...nice area of London, parkings not at all fun though :( so police permission is a must really for removals. I'd recommend The Greyhound pub on Kew green but if you're driving...

Yeah she said parking is bad but she's spoken to the police so can park outside. Once she's settled I'll probably head down for a few weekends, free digs!

Be aware that the admission price for Kew Gardens is £10/head (last time I looked). This may come as a bit of a surprise to those who remember when it was about 2 old pennies.

They have priced themselves out of the "cheap afternoon out" market.

I do not believe that (although you might think this price entitles the visitor to select a few plants as souvenirs) they look kindly on those who do their pruning for them.

OT: It is illegal i believe to pick any growing plant in the UK.

I used to spend my free time in the National Gallery and the National Portrait gallery. Tate britain is still worth the walk but I never found Tate Modern worth the effort. Next door to TM is the Bankside Gallery which is full of exquisit watercolours. The whole of the South Bank is worth exploring including the RFH complex just for the vibe.

or take the water bus from the Embankment downstream to Canary Wharf and walk back along the Thames path.

London Zoo & Regent's Park and the newly restored Albert Memorial.

The thing with London is that it is full of hidden gems, you can spend a lifetime exploring. In someways it's a tourist paradise but I, for one, am glad I no longer work there.
