so very hard to resist!!! 12 months ago and I would have jumped at this.

but I share your unease with e-bay.

I know that I could use the cassette player straight-away, and pass it on to daughter or buddy for immediate use.

How would it pair with a Meridian 200 transport?

I've used it briefly with a meridian 200 as it happens. It all hooked up and worked fine. Sound wise, it sounded fine to me......i'll leave that for others to judge.
