    Define "art"...

I quite like that piece - I'd need to see it in real life first though.

Let's face it - if four lights on dimmers can win the Turner Prize, a pile of bricks cost the Tate £1million, and a messy room win awards, then anything's possible.

My A Level Art teacher always used to say that anything can be art, so long as you can justify it. That's probably how I managed to scrape a pass, while using only biros for the final piece :)

Phew. Thank god I didn't post any pictures of my living room anywhere. Although I'd like to think my "audio art" is better.

An extreme example of keyword spamming  . This one has got to be reported to eBay I'm afraid. The more people do it the more useless the eBay search feature becomes. If I was searching for Linn, Naim or Rega I definitely DON'T want to see a shite bit of art.

I'm going to have an oil painting in my listening room.

    This one

    At 54"x42", it's a little bigger though.

    That's not art. It's a talentless doodling.

That qualifies as art these days Ian. Have you been to the Saatchi?

I was in Tate not to long ago and one of the paintings looked like an old painting that had been totally painted over in black paint.

    Nice one.

There's some excellent stuff in the Saatchi and Tate Modern. There's a world of difference between good modern art and this cack.

My mistake - I thought you were on about Isaac's example.

And yes, the Saatchi is a great afternoon out, although some of the exhibits did leave me totally cold I must admit.

Anna's paintings look a little like the ones I see by sellers who put their stuff up on the railings by Hyde Park. Its a little 'Athena' to my tastes, and not my cup of tea. Its inoffensive nature would probably make it popular. All IMO.

Ive got to applaud anyone who put real artwork up in their house though, regardless of whether I like it or not. We've got to get away from mass produced paper prints if we want to encourage originality in artwork.

Spamming is evil and should result in an E-bay ban though. Are you listening 7V?!!?! hahaha

The 'artist' (scam or paint,...you decide!), probably did one of those one-day courses you see advertised at your local adult education college, got a bit familiar with the acrylic paints and thought they were Michaelangelo!

True artists are very critical of their own work, often to the point of being reluctant to show it. This should be in the trash bin IMHO!

What would be better is that on forum's like these people could commission specific works by a reputable artist which could be offered at a fair price.

Time to get all my old brushes out of storage I think :D

ListeningEar - Yes, artists are very critical of their own work. I have pleaded several times not to have my oil painting modified.

But they're not reluctant to show it. Generally they're largely frustrated by the difficulties involved in showing it, and the sheer dross that tends to show up in galleries. I can't remember a year's turner prize entrants that I haven't heard largely condemned...

True, did not want to bread misconception, I just know that as a naturally gifted artist myself and all the creative people I have come into contact with over the years, we/they often have lofts/basements stacked with pieces that are not quite 'finished'.

Maybe we should form our own 'People's Art Movement',...but then in reality I have not painted anything in such a long time my pieces would probably end up looking like they should be on ebay!!!

Well its as likely to enhance someone's (someone who actually likes it of course) listening than some of the bizarre weirdness we've seen with bits of amber and bricks made of "special" material and whatnot that have been quite seriously claimed to make "all the difference".
