    Hi,
My mate pete has asked me to ask y'all out there if you can help re a fault on his Cd player:

"It is a Teac CD transport VRDS T1. Serial number is 80***

It always used to play original and copied CD's. The fault first started with copied CD's. I would put the disc in and it would spin it round (as if reading it) and then stop. It would not play. I initially got round this problem by loading the copied CD in the tray and not closing it. Press play. It would close the tray and play the CD. This trick stopped working after a while and it simply would not play copied CD's at all. Solution. I bought new original CD's.

It is now having difficulty with the original CD's. They load and play fine until I try and skip a track. It simply spins the disc and then fails to play it. It will work fine if I try and skip from say track one to two or three to four but further into the disc say track eight to nine then the problems start. Not always but more often than not.

It has been in for repair and had two new lasers fitted (just in case the first replacement was faulty). It has had a couple of new chips fitted as well. (not sure what they were). These attempts at repair have made no difference to the problem."

    Any ideas?

Yep. It's worn out. Get a turntable instead. :)

Or maybe it doesn't like the music it's being forced to play?

I have a VRDS-7 in for repairs with a very similar issue.
It can load a disk but can't even register it has a disk loaded.
Clearly it's something to do with the laser.
I can't give you a final result as the company are still awaiting new parts from Teac in Japan, but if you want, drop me an e-mail and I'll find out what new parts they requested once it's fixed.

I would strongly suspect the photodiode and laser assembly or mabe the tracking cart it runs on. WM

I'd agree with a laser tracking problem. This is similar to what happened when my RCD-991 died recently...
