Mr Murry these are supurb pictures, but on my broadband connection they are taking time, for dial up you are going to be pissing people off. I recommend half the physical size at least.

    Good photos though.

You can make them smaller at no great cost to the quality, this is about 10% the size of the original,

And probably better to resize as well, this comes out at about 5%,

    FWIW.

For the artistic look you could obviously burn more bytes, or work a bit harder on optimising the compression.

Thanks for the feedback and the advice. Paul, I've optimised the files as you suggested. The first one is now 7.5% of the original file size and the second is 16% of the original size.

P.S I'm just glad I only uploaded a few of them, else I get the feeling my name would have been mud :).

    Pah -- I couldn't ignore it.

Damn good pictures btw -- what camera did you use? Did you use special lighting, or standard house light + flash?

Rory, sorry about that I keep forgetting that not everyone has broadband. I'll need to keep tweaking the optimisation to make them appropriate for all connection speeds. Oh and the 11Ls wold look even better if I could be arsed to wipe the dust off them.

Nepherim, glad you like the pictures. They were taken using an Olympus 750 UZ. They were shot at high quality (2288 x 1172). The first shot was done under standard house lighting with user defined/semi-auto white point balance. The second shot was taken just in ambient light using the cameras auto setting. No flash in either picture. The only special equipment I used was a tripod.
