After what seems like ages without a record player, my long-awaited NAS has finally reached its resting place. There have been real problems getting hold of Tecnoarms at the moment so rather than wait any longer, I've gone for the OL RB250 with its weight & wiring mods. It'll do for the time being.

Sound-wise it's so far so good - although it does sound a bit coarse at the moment due to the newness of the arm wiring but just running it for a couple of hours has brought about an increase in clarity and speed. There have been a couple of rather promising 'well I've never heard that bit of detail before' moments though which is very pleasing. The Spacedeck's also beautifully made and finished and feels a very serious quality product, especially for the money.

Been playing around with the TT's siting (using granite slabs on top of the Q4 and trying without) and ended up just plonking the thing on top of the rack. The NAS does appear fairly un-fussy about where it sits. Anyway...here are a couple of pics:

    Thanks all :)

It's not stopped playing since 4pm now, so it must be doing something right!! The thing's starting to pick up a bit more rhythmic verve now...I also can't believe how good the this thing's pitch coherence/stability is. I've played a few big band lp's (Bob Florence mostly coz he uses a contrabass clarinet to underpin the Bari Sax) where the band plays shock chords, interspersed with really full-on complicated drum breaks. Where the Gyro and the LP12 I had years ago (yes...really) would trip up and lose the rhythmic momentum, the Spacedeck just gets on with it, no messing. Wow :) :)

Dreemer - I got my rig from Walrus. The TT was a quid short of 900 and the arm was about 350 I think. I reckon that's pretty good vfm for what I'm hearing. :)

    Gromit,

Your new TT looks utterly captivating and I wish you well to use it. To find out that it's barely £900 new (exc. arm) makes it all the more impressive.

Keep us posted on how the sound develops, oh, and more pics please! :)

    Cheers.

    Regards,

    JonR

but you're with NAS friends now, and we love NAS chat. (says he who has only joined the "club" this week too)
was playing gene "drawn to the deep end" ltd 2 x 180g lp - was sounding fantastic yesterday. followed with the cd which started impressively, but then started to sound a little lifeless in comparison.

i must have missed it, but i'm sure someone must have made a comparison between the spacedeck and the gyro se as they are at a similar price point.... so can someone either point me in the right direction or let me know the sonic differences between the two? i have to say the spacedeck it pretty sweet looking!

Blake - I did that very comparison when I bought the NAS, having come from a Gyro myself. Have a look at this thread

    Hope that'll help a bit. :)

Nice :D Looking at it I thought "ooh I'd like on o' them". Then realised I've got one - ha :)

You might find you might prefer it with the motor unit a tad closer to the deck (so long as it doesn't touch).

Yup - on the advice of another NAS owner the motor's now as close as it can get without it actually touching the platter.

As to the deck itself, I'm totally chuffed to bits with it - I always loved my Gyro (it's a great TT) but this is in another league. I'm one more very happy NAS customer. :)

Sorry about the slight hijack, Gromit, but can you advise me how you managed to paste those images directly onto the thread? (I fancy turning this into a NAS porn thread...)

    Thanks,

    Chris.

Its easy. when you click on reply you have a little image icon in the tool bar.

click that and you will be asked for a link, now thats the hard bit you need to put the pictures somewhere for hosting there are free ones like http://www.imagevenue.com/ but if you have any free hosting with you ISP or something that would be the best to use.

If you get stuck give me a shout I can probably host a couple of pics for you.

Thanks, zoomer. I'll give it a go and drop you a pm if I get stuck for hosting space.
