No, but I don't think there's any danger of that. Also, I don't think anyone (not even CJ at his peak :D ) claimed that the DAC20 was one of the best digital sources ever. It was good for the money (£350-450) though. I had one and wasn't disappointed.

Most people who've heard a DAC64 are extremely impressed with it - to the extent that many have gone on to buy one. In our little Portuguese audio forum there are 4 DAC64 owners (including myself), 2 of which (not me) had listened to a vast array of digital sources (DACs and CDPs) from around £1500 upto about £10K and both agreed that the DAC64 just made everything else they'd heard sound quite ordinary. It has got universally excellent reviews throughout the hifi press and on hifi forums (even the Naim forum). In fact, the only negative things I've ever heard about it are from one or two people on this forum.

I'd normally not get into to the whole talking up my own kit thing. It smacks of self-justification and insecurity and is really a bit sad but in this case I find it a little annoying that the DAC64 detractors are so ready to chime in at every turn when the massively overwhelming opinion of just about everyone who's in a position to express one is very positive on the DAC64.

    Michael.

I do seem to remember (And bear in mind this was 18 months ago James), you specificaly asked for the sink and lead to be brought along, plus the wadia too, at the time I just didn't have a 3 m balanced lead, something a saleman would never have entertained upon making a journey of that length, with sufficent gear to demo. cardinal sin No.1
Also If my hippo campus serves me here, your constant trumpet blowing about the preformance of your equipment lead me to believe (falsely I might add) that it was worth making the the long trek up there.
I mean a trip to Pogs is a lot less hassle for a far better sound for a system based on a ferrous platform.
Perhaps its an inferiority complex that aflicts you?, or are you worried your EX-Brothers from the Isle of ferrious with be presenting you with the Ju-Ju stick?
James it really wasn't that special get over it, stick another 3 levels in there, it'll help the shakes for a week or 2 :)

I've heard Pog's system, WM. That line of 'argument' just doesn't wash. But Pog's system certainly belongs in this thread.

You offered to bring the Wadia, but chickened out. I really wasn't interested in the sink, and certainly didn't ask you to bring it up with you.

    Bub,

Good grief, are you still festering about this after all this time! Get over it man. Perhaps your system doesn't appeal to everyones taste. Perhaps not everyoby likes ATC and Mana. Perhaps other people have better systems.

As long as you are happy with your own system why should it matter?

I havent heard the bigger ATC's, just the smaller active ones at Ian's (sideshowbobs).

    Have also heard WM's system.

The sound of ATC active speakers and WM's digital amp/meadowlark are poles apart in style.

One favours neutrality and naturalness, the other thwack and clarity IMHO.

If we accept its yin and yang not good vs crap... ;)

    PS

Penance, this one would tie-in your white stilleto's with the butterfly tattoo on your ankle! ;)

:D Sorry - nearly peed myself laughing there. Would LOVE to know where you can get a house in this grotty rock for £60k; you can't even buy a grotty 1bed studio conversion down here in Exeter for less than £80k!

Thought Portugal was pretty pricey for property on a par with southern England, or is that just in cities?.
