I'm listening to 'Legend the Best of Bob Marley' and was struck by the wonderful
organ part in 'No Woman No Cry'.
I can think of a few of my favourite rock and blues bands which feature the organ (John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, Deep Purpleto mention a couple) to good effect.
Any members with a favourite organ track (gettit!?)

Emerson Lake and Plamer Pictures at an Exhibition and Brain Sald Surgery,
Deep Purples Burn was a good one.

TYRONE DOWNIE, was the keybord player, junior murving lead guitar, two brothers one on bass the other on drums " the BARRET'S"
nando.

Yes! Hugh Banton - one of the least lauded and IMHO best of the classic prog era keyboarders - and a proper organist who never really got distracted by synths etc. I've seen them on recent tours as a 3 piece with the maddest line-up ever - organ, drums and vox/guitar/piano - it's incredible how much music HB plays with just 2 hands and 2 feet.

It will never be know who made the first song. Nor what is was. Music certainly pre-dates written history. However, Jimmy Dean hit the charts with his 'speak-don't sing' monster hit "Big John" in the late 50s.... that has to be the original rap song

Under Deep Purple it has to be said that Jon Lord's solo on Made In Japan's version of Highway Star is the ultimate. Ritchie Blackmore must've felt a bit sick having to follow it...

Hello............

I have developed quite a liking for the organ, and organ rock music. I like songs like Foreplay/long time and In-a-gada-divida that feuture organ as the main instrument, as well as others like Only the Good Die Young and Build me up Butter Cup. I was wondering what othe good ones are out here similar to those or from those artists that future organ. Thanks

Kenny

My favourite organ sound has to be gimme some loving-spencer davis.Alought micky gallager with the blockheads does some rather funky stuff on his pair of nords- leslie combo

I enjoy Brian Auger's playing from the work he did with Steam Packet, Jules Driscoll, Trinity, Oblivion etc. Still playing and giging I believe but stateside sadly.

My birth farther had a B3 and his own cabaret circuit band and one of my earliest memories is playing with the drawbars. Not seen him since I was 7 or 8 though.

Forgot to mention The Inspiral Carpets. The organ placed them a cut above the landfill indie of the time - Keep The Circle Around, Weakness, Dragging Me Down - and they had the cracking Mark E Smith collaboration I Want You. Clint Boon played a Farfisa I believe.
