Woken up this morning at 4am with bright flashing and big bangs, been doing it every since, longest storm I can remember, but its great I love this! If I'm really lucky it might knock out the power at work, now that would be the icing on the cake!

Shame I'm not quick enough on the camera to get a decent "fork" image but I did get a recording of the thunder.

It can keep this up all day, never get bored of it.

Hey this also means they got the weather forcast right for a change! :)

Arr and I feel so sorry for those at Glosto in the rain and the mud, when I'm sat in my nice warm DRY house, he he he he :) hope your having a nice time domfjbrown and Ilockier! Hope you took your wellies!

Yes, here in Glastonbury the storm started at 5:30. It was still going strong at 7:00. There were several torrential downpours so I suspect the festival site is going to quickly turn into a mudbath

Edited to add: Oh dear! It's just started again. It's chucking it down out there. Glad I got into the office when I did :D

Him upstairs is at it again. The first arrangement obviously didn't work. He's moving it all around again

If you northern folks have any sunshine this morning, make the most of it. This lot is headed your way :p

One of the noisiest storms we've had in a while.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news

Of course it may have burnt itself out a bit by the time it gets to you. The thunder is still pretty much continuous here (and I'm not exaggerating). The lights are back on but every so often they cut out for a few seconds. That's one very active thunderstorm.

Crikey! Another half hour gone by and it's still banging and crashing out there. It's been continuous for an hour and a half now.

Its only just stopped here and the sun is out.

It didn't take out the computers, but then I found out we have backup generators here anyway, d'oh!

Someone told me this started it 1am, that is one very long storm, tell you what waiting for a bus holding an umbrella while you see fork lightning not too far away is a bit scary! hehe :) what are the chances of being hit, less than winning the lottery isn't it?

That was good fun, never get tired of thunder storms, I love 'em.

    It was still dark

when it started here (SW Devon) so no idea what time that was. Had thought it had stopped but just heard a few more rumbles (no it's not nearly lunchtime).

I did get up and unplug the hi-fi [health and safety note: this was when the storm still sounded a long way off] and found this morning that the RCD had tripped in the fuse box. It's our first storm in this house and am planning a full re-wire in the next year but hadn't really looked at the electrics.

Does this mean the RCD was doing it's job and the un-plugging was superfluous?
Is this the kind of device that hi-fi purists say shouldn't be there at all?

Should I post this before the computer goes off again?......

Your thinking of surge protection, and RCD will not do this, it trips when it detects any current going to earth, or a short. Always best to unplug the hifi / tv / satalite / phone in this weather. I have a surge protector on the comptuer equipment.

I found they my RCD would trip if I unpluged my mains filter thing, turned out to be that the filter wasn't RCD friendly and when switch off it would dump any residual current to earth, thus tripping the switch, sent it back to manufacture to be fixed.

Hmmmm! It's all gone suspiciously quiet here. I'll bet it's just waiting down the road for 12:45. The instant I set foot outside, all hell will probably let loose :(

I quite like going out in thunder and lightning, something very spiritual about it.
