Been away from hi-fi for a while, so i have a question.
Is bi-wiring still fashionable or not?
Do you think it makes any difference?

Only if the cable is visible.

If it's hidden or the lights are out it makes no difference.

Thought I was deaf when I upgraded to biwire cables:rolleyes: and heard nothing. I have read elsewhere that silver jumpers give benefits. Not heard this myself though. Current speakers have just one pair of terminals.

If you want to try silver jumpers ..

pm me as I may have some offcuts that will suit just fine [its what I use !]

let's just say that most speakers have only one wound coil in their crossover split in four linked sockets, "USELESS" were some do have dual coil cross overs and properlly designed bi-wire and bi-amping does make a difference in the sound stage, cables are system dependant, some work some don't reviews mean just a fraction of the effect of cables on different systems, i too make interconnects from a well known source that supplyes reels of it to industrial sources, regards nando.

IMO - jumpers are best - ideally using the same cable as the speaker cable?

I like the Ubyte
http://www.tnt-audio.com/clinica/ubyte2e.html
Cable best of all the ones I've bought / made - so far.

I made bi-wiring runs - even tri-wired the bass to see if it improved the bass even further.

Hard to tell ANY difference between bi and single.
Tri-wiring made the imaging mushy.

Having done many tests, I decided to single wire.
It just sounds right -er the music, not the phrase:)

Doom, I prefered my Ruarks (I know you use them) single wired.

They sounded great with a 50w valve amp. I don't know what amp you are using, but if you haven't tried valves with the Ruarks I'd reccomend giving it a go... especially if they are templars/crusader/talisman/accolade.

Cheers
Chris.

You could always buy speakers with single terminals then you don't have to worry about it.Interesting that many big players such as Audio Physic don't bother with twin terminals, they regard them as just plebby marketing. And my current Von Scweikerts are only singles as well.

Doubles the capacitance, halves the inductance and the resistance. Depends on what your amplifier is looking for.

Bi-wiring gives(in my system) a wider,deeper, higher soundstage. The speakers simply "disappear". Creek A52SE bridged power amps(2 @ 250watts) into Tannoy R2's - wonderful!

as an ex-naimie i've always been skeptical about the whole bi-wire thing however my current amp / speaker combo seems to work better with 2 runs of speaker cable than with 1. so that's what i use. try it and trust your ears.

It depends on the speaker and the crossover design. I've tried it and not heard any difference. But on the Adorn speakers that I reviewed for TNT, the difference was night-and-day!

I agree though, that bi-amping is better again. ;)

Thanks for your input chaps.
by the way my gear isn't top drawer stuff (got a wife & 2 kids to feed:rolleyes: ) Ruark icon speakers, cambridge Azur cd & get this..Akai AM-U01 amp (but i love it).
But do you recommend replacing the brass jumpers with speaker cable?
