    Hello all,

I have been asked to look for a classic and unusual CDP to go with an old B&O receiver.

Anything like a top-loader or one with funny dials or something would do but I have drawn a blank. Limit is going to be roughly £30 but I'm sure this could be increased if something is found.

    Does anyone have any idea?

    Andrew

Arcam Alpha 9 with Ring DAC. £300ish. Very nice (though not 'unusual')

    Sorry. Did you say £30?!

Yes, £30, its not for me, the parents want a really cheap second system. Was thinking something from the 80's would probably be most likely really

keep an eye open in your local 'crack converters' or equivalent. mine has an oldish stable platter pioneer is lovely 80's champagne for about 50 quid i'm sure they could be knocked down a quid or two to meet your price range. the trouble is that any 30 quid cd player is either going to sound crap or be within a few days of lunching itself.
    cheers

Not really unusual or classic but certainly cheap are the late 90's Technics Mash 390/490/590. they sound alright, and will probably give a lot more use than an old sony

I'd say any of the old Technics MASH players from the 1990's would sound ok. MASH always sounded pretty good to me.

I've got a Rotel RCD 965 BX LE Discrete that's not being used. It'll be going in the classifieds soon if you're interested. Probably around £50ish

2 and a half hours to go....

Should go for about £30 don't you think? To think that we wouldn't think twice to spend that much on a meter or two of cable/interconnect....

Yeah I was going to bid on that one, but as the Mother in law is a tad scary, I thought I'd better go for one in good condition!
Yeah I reckon it'll go for less than £30. It has no remote so that will knock down the price a little

Andrew. That interconnect is on its way to ya. £11 for a CDP...... £25 for the I/C...

As for Isaac's CDP. £41 with 2 days to go? It'll end up costing more than it's worth. I betcha.

God - you guys are waaaay off the mark!

You want one of the Philips CD100s, a Sony CDP101 or something like the first Pioneer (door loading) or an early Technics (I got my 1985 Technics SL-P2 for free in 1999 and it's still going strong now!).

There might be some early chrome Philips CDPs on Epay if you look around :)
