    :yikes:

No idea. That must be some kind of glitch, unless someone was trying a DoS attack on the site.

DDOS attacks are becoming a major problem and at the moment the authorities are not really interested. When the new law comes into place it will make DDOS attacks specificaly illegal, at the moment though DDOS attcks were not even invented when the computer miss use act was introduced.

This might not have been a DDOS attack though.

Distributed Denial of Service. By means of an internet worm or similar, enlisting the (unwitting and unwilling) help of many thousands of PCs to mount a denial of service attack on a site or server by bombarding it with so many requests that it either crashes completely or is far too busy to service legitimate requests.

Is it possible for a DDOS attack to equate to 545 online "connections". Would the ZG server itself see a DDOS attack? I'd have thought that the ISP's firewalls would stop them getting through to the actual servers, (not saying that there won't performance degradation anyway). If each DDOS is seen as a connection then surely you'd expect the number of these connections to be far higher than 545?

It probably would be higher than but the server and MySQL database can only cope with a certain amount of connections. The site may have gone down after 545. As I don't think this site has a dedicated server if any other sites on the same server suffered a DDOS attack this site would go down with it although if there if there was any attacks last night it was this one.

The forum I often frequent has a much higher bandwidth server and this site does and that often goes down due to a result of DDOS attacks. They have a dedicated server.

If the was a DDOS attack though I am sure 32SP would have let Micheal know by now.

All perfectly logical AT. I don't think it was a DDOS. As you say the ISP would've told Michael. I was just curious, that's all.

zerogain.com doesn't run on a dedicated server but in order for 545 users to be registered by the forum software they'd all have to be hitting the forum of course. Unfortunately due some problem with 34sp.com I can't access the zerogain.com webstats for this month (or November) so I can have a look to see if there are any clues.
