I guess we've all got the odd album by a lesser known band that managed to produce one album and then disappeared from the scene.

One that occurs to me is Smiles Like a Shark by Mulu, released in 1997, about the same time as the Sneaker Pimps first album(who got a bit more recognition but only has one decent song IMHO).

Mulu were of a smilar ilk, quite keyboard oriented but with much better songs and a softer production sound.

Well worth checking out if you can find it but..... whatever happened to them ???

Marshall Hain

Whatever happened to Marshall Hain? I used to have 'Free Ride' on vinyl but have never been able to find it on CD. Anyone know where I can get one? Anyone got it on vinyl?

White Town

Went from bedroom demo tape to UK No.1 in about four days ISTR in 1997 with the single "Your Woman" with 80's style phasey vocals and a catchy version of the "ding ding te ding ding" melody of the pocket watch tune from "For a Few Dollars More".

Went of the radar shortly afterwards and never re-appeared AFAIK.

Michael.

I remember White Town releasing another single so stuck the name into AMAZON (HERE) to see what popped up. Appears the bedroom producer did a few MOre things as well!

Anyone remember "Sonic boom boy" by Westworld? I found the album (well, ahem, 2 copies) for 50p in MVE in London - I think they sank like a trace...

Have Senser done more than one album? I've been playing "Stacked up" TONNES recently for some unknown reason (apart from it's a corking album).

First there was FOPP, now what is this MVE you talk of? Where abouts in London? Nationwide?

I assume MVE is Music and Video Exchange a smallish chain of s/h record/cd shops (formerly Record and Tape Exchange - I used to spend half my life searching through their albums in the early 80's). God they used to have some rubbish - I even sold them some:D .

You mean those shops around Notting Hill Gate tube station? They also do computer and all sorts of other "exchange" these days. Have about 5 or six shops dotted around the area. When I was reading "High Fidelity" I always imagined that's the job he worked in :)

Michael.

Yup thems the ones. They also used to have a shop in Camden Town (might still do), first time
No matter what album you wanted, it always used to turn up at some stage. Might have taken months but in the end...

Yeah, I've been playing that one a lot lately. Fine album.
I think they did do more but didn't their line up change? Hmmm. Not sure.

By cutie 7" I mean 7" vinyl by a twee cutie bands, typically found on a label called Sarah records. If you're unfamiliar, they played twee jingle-jangle guitar pop and some of the major movers were The Field Mice, Heavenly, Talulah Gosh and The Shop Assistants. Anyway, back in the early 90s when I was still living in Norway I wrote to a band called The Fat Tulips trying to get their first collectable 7" called Where's Clare Grogan Now? I was referred to a friend of theirs who was selling her copy ââ'¬â€œ she is now my wife... sweet eh?
