Will an old DAB tuner circa 2001 work with the new DAB MkII Codecs?

    Hi,

Got my eyes on a "vintage" DAB tuner from 2000/2001 and was just wondering if it has the sort of chipset whose EEPROM can be flashed via auto-update to run the latest codecs? I read somewhere in hi-fi world that older DAB tuners won't be able to receive broadcasts that use the latest (read - much better) compression algorithms, but newer DAB tuners can?

Any way of checking? Are only certain "Pure" chipsets capable of doing this?

    Thanks,
    DT

you can contact pure but in my opinion it will not be wise both financially or practical, most DAB tuners that are now in the latest uncompressed to a sense that you can not define between a good cdp do not come cheap, F.A.I.W. the MF x-dab v8 is a fine example, both fm anaolgue and dab.nando.

I listened to some DAB and non-DAB tuners over the weekend and have to say that even through the "mid-market" ones like the NAD C4XX and Arcam TXXX, DAB sounded bloody awful.

Bought an old analogue-only Marantz T6000 instead, for £100, and it sounds fine. Pretty decent sound for the money, if you ask me.

    Thanks,
