Hi,

The following is an extreme design in my favourite analogue domain, which I thought I should share:

Please, visit: aca.gr/paper37.htm, which is a paper (included in the http://aca.gr pages), mainly describing most of the technicalities of a huge flywheel design (turning at 375rpm for 33.33RPM) for a huge platter, both magnetically suspended (many pictures included).

I am also taking the chance to review my whole analogue set-up, raising and analysing many subjects of an analogue system as a whole.

So, I cover the following subjects:
  • 1. The current state of the analogue set-up. ('aas gabriel', Swiss hand made t/t)
    2. The description of the t/t elements.
    3. The flywheel project. (My extreme DIY intervention...)
    4. The finished analogue system set-up & accessories.
Listening comments and concluding notes will follow soon, after the break-in period...

Regardless of the extremism of the design, let me assure you that many of the included topics will sound familiar and clear up, (I hope), some of your queries you possibly have, regarding a good analogue set-up...

I wish you all a very Happy New Year 2004.

Sorry but that link goes to a hideously buggy site that takes an age to load.

Gary,

In life sometimes we have to wait for the best things;)

I know the site in question is somewhat slow, but then I find it very interesting and full of the excess that makes this hobby so entertaining.

That's 'cos Gary's using an (Cr)Apple Mac... :duck: Just kidding Gary :) I bet it's a bug in whatever browser implimentation the Mac your using is running though - trying to get even basic intranet sites to display the same on Mac/PC/Linux/Unix here at work is a real PITA...

Last updates finish the heavy flywheel project

There have been updates to this paper and it is now finished (at last...)

If you have time, please re-visit:

(Heavy weight-high rotation magnetically suspended flywheel for a large mass magnetically suspended t/t platter!)

Sorry for the 20 months delay...

Not that I know anything about your t/t, but isn't it bad having such strong magnets near an ultra-sensitive moving coil cartridge?!?!?! Isn't that highly delicate signal affected in some way?

Of course: I like to see and hear all my lovely MC cartridges being broken by this huge magnet. The sound gives you a real good heavy metal feeling. :D

The sound of the aas is really great but they were some "baby faults" in the first versions. I know about some which the weight on the cartridges may have changed up to 0.4 grams depending where the cartridge was on the plate!! What's interesting about it though, is that this difference was not really "hearable".

skaloumbakas, I heard yesterday evening to Berloz's Symphony fantastique without the leather record map and I believe your result is the same as mine. I will do further tests.
About the other stuff I will have to read your paper again when I have patience and time.

Nice to hear you again Titian!

Nice to hear you again Titian.

Remove any record mat. Just put the record straight on the platter, it won't heart it and you will hear the music more clear.

I hope you keep in touch and send me some updates of your system (but please after summer vacations - i want to take-off....)

Best regards

My system (including complete room acoustics) will be finished by end of summer.
After that no modifications are planned.

best regards to you too

Titian, How long have you been using the MSB stuff?, I take your using the Plat III Sig with the newer custom digital filter array? T.
Hi,
I bought in 1993 the MSB Gold processor (2 inputs) with the Gold transporter. Around 2 years ago I replaced them with Kalista and C2 processor.
The MSB stuff is hanging here around since then and I don't even dare sell them because I don't think they are worth a penny.
I used the Gold processor this year while the C2 was upgraded and I really didn't listen much to music then.
Very heavy stuff though. :)
