hi

today my first midbass horn got finished. It is painted with poliurethan PU, black satin , which leaves a raw surface.

mouth size is 38" / 96cm diameter, and thorat 4" /10cm.

Weight is approximately 130kg.

Fc is 145hz, and 125hz at half space.

I will use it between 150hz and 700hz, with Fane Studio 8M driver,
in my next hornspeaker system, full frontloaded, 4 way.

Record player right next to the bass woofer. Nice.

and what will play between 50 and 150hz?

do you plan to go from 700hz up with a single driver (as you've mentioned 4-way)?

hello Gordan

if you consider the subwoofer as integrated part of the system, than it will be actually 5 way.

that will be the hole configuration:

Subwoofer: Aura 1808 in vented cab < 50hz, active with rhytmik plate amp.

Upper bass: front loaded basshorn , active, with RAS300 bassmodul, driver JBL 2206h 50hz - 150hz

Satellite :

Mid-bass 38 " / 96cm tractrix horn, with Fane Studio8M 150hz - 700hz

Midrange 23 "/ 57cm wave guide with Radian 950pb or Vitavox S2 700hz - 10khz

Tweeter Coral H104 > 10khz .

Crossover passive first order, 6db. for the satellite, active for the bass.

nice work Angelo. Have you tried any other 8 inch units besides the Fane? Isn't that what Romy uses?

hi Murray

i have not tried the horn yet. The system is not up. The horn on the picture is only the first one. The second has to be finished, and the frame and midhorn as well. It will take more one month or so, to finish the hole system.

have you made some kind of provision to adjust the volume of the chamber behind the driver? What is the actual mouth diameter? I'm just trying to model it on hornresp to see what kind of response it actually gives (in theory anyway!)

hello Murray

it will be only possible to adjust the backchamber volume with foam.
the horn mouth diameter is 88cm at 180 degree tractrix expansion.

I modelled a Fane Studio 8M on 115Hz tractrix a while back out of interest - doesn't look to promising... ::confused:

With 100cm^3 throat chamber:

With 1l throat chamber:

Could be the T-S parameters I used were wrong, dunno....

here you will find the parameters :

its interesting to observe, that there is a severe difference between the frequency plot of the german homepage, and the tchech one.

here a simulation from the AA thread :

i actually do not care so much about theory. I will try out the Fane as first option, and later on other drivers as well.

Angelo

they are identical to the parameters at the german homepage.
So it might come that your simulation is accurate.

The quest will be, at what point this simulation will be relevant in practical terms.
