I have a Rock III TT and am looking to upgrade the tonearm. I've just been offered a mint, unused SME IV with damping trough at £1k (this is my max budget so a PU7 is out of court).

My options as I see it are:

    * look for a 2nd hand Excalibur and get it fettled by J7 at Audio Origami
    * buy a high quality arm like the SME IV fit it and forget it

It would be replacing an OL-1 and the current cartridge is a Denon 304 - which sounds excellent currently but I suspect has much more to give.

    Comments please, fellow ZeroGainers.

Buy the SME IV then fit and forget.

Stunning arm and would work well with the Denon.
