amplifier/computer connection help

    im looking to hook up my alesis monitor one mk2's to my computer thru an amplifier (alesis ra300). i have little knowledge when it comes to audio, but ive looked at the back of the Alesis ra300 and cant seem to find the right cables to connect the amp to the computer. do i need a mixer? so id have the Monitors hooked up into the Amp plugged into the mixer leading into my aux port on my computer ?

    Do you have the passive Alesis monitors? They made active ones too.

    How you connect the amp to the computer depends what audio connections your computer has. What is the computer / sound-card?

    I'm guessing your computer has a 3.5mm stereo jack for audio output, like a headphone plug. The Alesis RA300 has RCA (aka phono) inputs so you need to shop for a 3.5mm stereo jack to rca cable I guess. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3-5mm-Ste...t=LH_DefaultDomain_3&var=&hash=item540a287849

    You will also need a way to control volume. The RA300 amp I think has two volume controls on the front, one for each speaker which is a bit of a pain to use. You can also adjust volume output from the software on the computer. I'd recommend keeping the amp turned down away from full volume and use the software control around 70% most of the time. Otherwise, if the software accidentally goes to full level you will blow your ears off!

    theyre passive, ill be plugging them into my mac book pro or a custom comp with a regular 3.5 jack. the back of the monitors only have connections for the alesis amp, so i would have to plug it in from the Ra300. so i wouldnt need a mixer? the connections are on the back of the ra300?

    Yes you need to go from the computers 3.5mm jack output to the phono / RAC plugs on the RA300, then to the speakers. Keep the volume on the amp down at first.
