In a world of pain
Well, in preparation for my getting a Trichord mains transformer and Eupens, my amp has undergone surgery to remove the captive lead and mount an IEC socket on the back panel (which was a squeeze!).

During the operation I was pleased to discover that about 60% of the capacitors used in the amp (Rotel RA-971mkII) are black gates. That sort of quality of component selection in an amp at the price (I got it for £200 new) is encouraging to see.

The amp survived the ordeal by screwdriver, pliers, jigsaw and file...

Even just stealing a regular cable from one of my computers to power it until I get the Eupen it seems to be a little better. But this was just to allow using the eupens. The amp still works, so I declare the operation a success!

That's how it looks post-mod.

They're not. The bottom one is in a place that it couldn't be anyway. But they're not needed. The edges of the hole in the metal that I cut out were very tight (and somewhat jagged), which grips the socket, and the cable on the inside is not long, and two of the chassis screws press the terminal to the side slightly, into the metal edges. It feels very solid, although I'll probably put the top screw in at some point.

Isaac. I really would try to use mounting hardware, and double plastic/ptfe washer it, and also Hot/glue in the socket seams, when you use a Eupen, the cable is a lot heavier and will put extra pressure on the socket, just a thought mate WM

Noted. The socket is completely solidly still though, even when I try hard to move it, so any additional work is just gravy... I'll stick the screw in at some point.
