My musicology student son says it rings no bell but described it as pompous and Beethoven-esque. ;)

    Cheers

It's definitely Beethovenesque. I suspect it's one of his overtures, either Fidelio or one of the Leonoras, I'll have a listen this weekend

I thought Beethoven too, but as people are having trouble recognizing it it may well be a good imitation. Bat, where did you find the site? If you click on the link the site looks rather disturbing. It appears to belong to a neo-fascist Greek nationalist movement of some kind (Swastika like symbols etc). Under the circumstances, I'll let the link remain but I'm not keen on linking to hate sites from here (if that is indeed what it is).

michael, i used the altavista babelfish to translate that page. it's the golden dawn homepage, and yes they're a greek neo-fascist organization.
i suggest you remove the link and any other reference or google will find it.

I've obfuscated the reference and remove the actual link so it google won't find it but I'm tempted to delete the thread alltogether (as, without the link, it makes little sense).

Definitely sounds a lot like Beethoven, though it could conceivably be early Bruckner or something too.

    Dear Bat
Never heard it before. I have heard all Beethovens orchestral music except Wellingtons Sieg. So I think it is not Beethoven.
Maybe it is pastiche specially composed for the homepage.

OK. I was not aware of the content of the site. Admin, you can naturally delete this thread.

Yes, probably a pastiche composed specially. I too, although not Greek-litterate, was disturbed by the nature of the site.

I'll leave the thread as it is as I think the link is now sufficiently obfuscated to not be promoting it.
