I had 2 items from Germany shipped by UPS and they damaged it.
I will tell you my xp of couriers and what to do. I am now well versed in damage claims.
I have an account with amtrak, who I am not happy with, really.
Its the warehouses, the local guys are great, the drivers take care and all that.
Once the item gets to the warehouse, it gets dropped thrown kicked around. And my experience of the collection and delivery drivers who I have found usually to take sufficeint care (apart from one they have one who is retired and shouldn'be be carrying heavy amps, he does bash them around and is a jerk.
(that is from a friend who worked as a cleaner at amtraks central depot in walsall. BTW if I was in john o groats and wanted to send a parcel to the hebrides, it would go all way to walsall and then back to get sorted!!)
I have heard city link are good and like their deliveries, too.
apparently avoid business post.
right damage claims.
you must contact ups central asap sooner the better.
report it arriving as damaged. I had a hell of a time with ups the cow tried to time waste and I was patient then!! and even got seriously pissed then, so now I would take no crap at all.
Couriers have a clause which is unreasonable, you sign for saying 'received in good condition' I even had a claim rejected cos I didn't know about this!! But its an unreasonable stipulation, what would a driver do if you said 'hold on whilst I take half an hour to unpack this, check it over and test it' whilst you wait...and everyone did?
Now I ALWAYS cross that out and just sign and say not examined.
Actually, you are lucky its getting sorted so soon, amtrak process takes weeks at least, one they have cocked up on and I have waited months, I sold it but the guy istn' happy. Its totally out of order, I even phoned and someone was looking into it, no reply.....
So you may get stick for that, you must press your case.
then you may fill in a form, collect all evidence, insurances, etc., if its not insured enough they may not pay, if its not properly packed at a damage inspection, they will not pay, the inspector may still try to get out of it, as he is acting for the insurance co. who doen'sn't want to pay, despite being there to pay out to us.
lots of hurdles and hassle ahead, careful you must be young jedi....
