Aquaplaning?

yeah, I went to an independant garage the other week for a rear tyre and they charged 40 quid for a kumra (?) cheapy to be fitted...quick scum wanted 60 for the same....cnuts...

Unlikely, it would take longer to wear a tyre edge like that. Under-inflation of the tyres will cause both edges to wear. If it's only the inside edge then it will be something suspension related - if the car is lowered, has cut springs or larger than standard wheels this will happen. Alternatively, worn shock absorbers could result in the car sitting lower than usual (if the compression damping has gone) or worn bushes can cause the geometry to go out.

You might need a full geometry check and set, rather than just tracking (which is done pretty badly in most places - they just align the fronts to the rears, rather than check that the rears are correct and that all the geometry settings are correct).

So, new pads and discs, and replacing the boot lock. Including labour cost me £150 last week....

Pleace bets now on how much this is likely to set me back....

Cars are a money pit aren't they :D

I recommend Michelin Energy Savers. I have been using Michelins for donkeys years and they are excellent.

When I got my Primera off my Dad, he had put some awful cheap tyres on it. The handling was all over the place, it didn't go in a straight line and cornering was abysmal. It was noisy too.

Once I fitted Michelin Energy Savers, the handling is a dream, it goes in a straight line and corners as one would expect it to, wet or dry. It's also much much quieter and I'm getting a couple of extra miles per gallon. They'll last well too. They cost me £80 each and I think it's money well spent.

Cheap tyres are a false economy.

On my old seat if it was very wet getting on the underside it was actually the power steering that went a bit iffy if it was fully right or fully left.

haha...when I first read that I thought the seat was what you sit on - and not the car... I think anyway... :)

The car itself was cheap as.... so I'd expected to have to spend a bit on it. The discs would have been avoided if I'd have spotted the pads were going before going away for the weekend. :o

You sure the MoT is kosher?

I think it's kosher in so much as the certificate was accpeted when getting the car taxed.

However, the pads, and tyres going this quickly after the MOT pass seems odd to me yeah. So maybe some things were allowed to slip through.

All an MOT says is that the car was roadworthy on the day. It does not say it will be roadworthy tomorrow, or for the whole year of validity.

Car back from garage. New tyres and tracking. £75.

The mechanic laughed when telling me how bad the tracking was.

He's stuck mohawk tyres on it. Probably the cheapest around I'm guessing?

I got as far as putting my shoes on to go have a look then clicked ;)
