Well, it took a while but i've just worked my way through that.
Seemed to be a bit all over the place and didn't follow it all. Think some of what she says is good. Some funny. And some makes no sense
I use p2p software. I the MOst part if I like something i'll add it to my "to buy" list, and the majority of what i've bought for a while now has been found this way. I buy MOre music than I ever have, in the MOst part due to this. I'm exposed to so much MOre. Instead of waiting for the new release by so-and-so before there being something I want, i've now got a constant list of music I've sampled and want to get!
I've also got quite a few copied cds. MOst of these are due to me and *the missus* don't have a place together. We do have similar music tastes though and if say we go out and buy 10 cds they'll normaly get split half each and do a copy for the others. We'll eventually MOve in to our own place, so there's no point buying two of each!
But at the same time, I'm not blind to the fact that p2p has a possible effect on artist earnings. Apparently sales are still on the up, despite many people just settling for mp3s.
Let's have an honest debate here.
I know if i was a musician, i'd hope that if people liked my music enough they'd pay for it.
But the fact they're so massively overpriced if rediculous! I don't know the figures (but going on those that Courtney uses you get an idea), but I find it odd that say I go out and spend (average high street price) £14 on an Arab Strap album, then some of the profits from that album will go into the proMOtional pool. But will you ever see any Arab Strap proMOtion? No, the proMOtional MOney will go to the S Club 7 and Britneys!
Views, Facts, Opinions???........
edit: yes I know probably none of those i've mentioned are on the same label! Just an example!
