I've just seen a pair of these going locally for £450.

Are they worth an audition?

Could my Audiolab 8000a act as a pre?

Are they worth an audition?

Absolutely yes!
Audio Analogue is a very good product .. well built by serious persons.
Just remeber the Audio Analogue sound generally gravitates toward the "romantic side of sound" detailed but tender and smooth
I think you can use the Audiloab as preamp .. not the best choice but a good starting point

ps: I didn't know the Donizzetti was available as monoblock! .. Are you sure about them? .. I know it's a "Dual Mono" but not sold as monoblock

Thanks for the link.

They certainly did do a monoblock version:

And of course, since there's no monblocks on the list, I know they're not stolen :)

I had Donizetti monoblocks they are very good,£450 seems a good deal as well,if you have an preamp with a remote trigger it switches the power amps on.I had a set for 4 years as I liked them in comparison to valve amps.

"Remote trigger" ?

Does this mean w/out one they won't work / come on?

How do I know if the preamp has one?

No they work with a standard preamp, I am sure they will be fine with the amp you have but with the Audio analogue amp they have a 12 v trigger mechanism that when you switch on the preamp the monos switch on as well. They will work with most preamps. Some preamps/power amps have the trigger ,Marsh amps have it I am sure there are others, if you could get the preamp to go with them it would be an improvement in my opinion but then I am not a AUDIOLAB fan particularly

Cheers for the info.

The Audiolab would only be temporary solution until I could get a "proper" pre.

I am a proud owner of Audio Analogue Donizetti power amp and all I can say is GO FOR IT. Great sound.
If possible, look for the AA Bellini preamp.
