This sounds great Simon - well done!!! Especially in these tricky times.

Hi Chris,

The review can be reproduced if I buy the copyright. I will do, but in a few days (cash flow and all that), its about £165 a page for the full rights. Quite fair I think. Nice photos :)

Congratulations, Simon. i didn't get a proper impression of these at all at the Heathrow show back last September. I stuck my nose in, the room was crowded and I just didn't make it back. Sounds like I missed something really special...

Got back from the show several hours ago now and have just got round to forum viewing.
Simon and his speakers deserved to be the absolute stars of the show - no kidding. So much so I even went back and told him so.
So many mega buck systems that simply lacked listening enjoyment it beggars belief - and as for the 'music' so many were playing (que best elevator jazz or after dinner clasical guitar) the very life of the show seemed to be in thick treacle.
At least Simon had made a big effort with his room, and even played some good tunes when politely prompted. Amazingly the room absolutely filled when something lively and engaging went on!
Then they stayed and listened...
& I guess they liked what they heard.
For the technical - a Naim system that sounded very good, and not bright or nasty - musical and very enjoyable. Rare for me to even think about saying that to a ripped disc played on a supenait.
Good luck with this Simon - you deserve a big pat on the back for that - and the fellow helping as well (very sorry, I had the wrong glasses on so missed your badge!)

Thanks for the comments.

The choice of music proved interesting. Some thrash metal had the room well entertained at one point but i couldn't help noticing quite a few grimacing faces scurrying past the door at the same time :)
You can never win with music choice which is why I think the best policy is to play whatever visitors want or bring with them.
We got plenty of 'Oh thank god it isn't another female vocal or twangy guitar' on a good few occasions so hopefully we pleased some if not all.

Lots of press visited and were impressed so expect to be reading a lot more over the coming months.

A huge thanks to Naim - not only did they very kindly deliver the kit but they stuck around for a couple of hours and set the stuff up, then came and collected it this evening. We were even invited to phone them if necessary over the weekend if we had any problems. Can't really ask for more.

A good idea this, in my book.

You don't want to be bringing your own gear to this kind of show, provides the wrong image IMO.

Hope the show went well.

NB
I use some of Simon's bass traps, and they are very good. He doesn't make them any more, so that makes mine collectors items! - Feel free to offer me silly amounts of money for them :D

Cheers Chris.

Simon found that he simply couldn't make a financial return worth the effort of producing the panels and traps. Construction is time consuming and the things are bulky and expensive to transport.

Room treatments are interesting because a few panels or traps will often produce an effect several orders of magnitude larger than the difference between very expensive electronics, yet it seems impossible to charge more a couple of hundred quid for them.

We used some 'not for sale' AS panels in the hotel room and borrowed the rest from Advanced Acoustics which seemed to work very well.

Rob has already said it, but thanks to all those who turned up and made it a successful event.

I've just got to regain my strength now, lol!
