In case you were under the delusion that banks care about their customers, here i present irrefutable evidence to the contrary.

Today i received two letters from a well known high street bank of which i am a member. The first one detailed an invitation to a free financial consutation, where the details of my investments, pension plans, tax etc could be reviewed and discussed in detail, to try and realise the maximum gain and profit, for me, the customer. (Do they not check my file first to confirm that i have no money :D )

The second, was an offer for a pre-approved guranteed loan, for a not insubstantial sum. All i had to do was ring a number of the bank, and it would be immediately activated, in order to catalyse any frivolous spending concerns i may have had that afternoon.

Amazing.

Hence to say, i will continue to make my own financial plans, however inadequate, and despite the temptation to go out and buy a serious high end dogs bollox hifi this afternoon, i resisted and will make do with my tupney apney discman for now.

Yea I reached the £800 limit on my credit card many years ago. I fully expected a snotty letter, but nope, my limit had been increased to £1800 because I was a good paying customer.

well arn't they thoughtful.

I've got a credit card with a balance of 0.00p. Now, they've sent me a letter saying the old £450 limit (odd I know) has been upped to a grand. Sorry folks - gotta do better than that - I have to pay my OTHER credit card off!!!!

I have a feeling I know which bank you mean, as I've had those pre-approved loan letters - did they send a cheque with your name and the amount already on it?- and financial advice offers too.

Have you had any major expenditure on any credit cards recently, as my previous letters always came through at those times, seemingly wanting to get me into that credit trap.

My personal fave from said bank was when a cheque I had written to pay a council tax bill was overpaid to the council - by a fairly small amout I admit - which I, obviously, queried. The council refused to refund saying that I needed to take it up with the bank. The bank, initially, refused to assist also, not willing to refer to the cheque which had been presented to them but, after a serious amount of phone calls and a letter, they duly obliged with a written response to me. It "appooligise" for any inconvenience the error had caused to me, and was "pleased to confirm that an error had been made".

Pleased to confirm? Appooligise?

Money grabbing and, as you've already pointed out, uncaring, and you can add imcompetent to the list too.

Rant over - as is my dealings with said bank - I wish you all the best weekend of your lives.

:)

Reading this thread, it's clear a few of you are unhappy with your banks; and it just so happens, tidying up my desk, I've come across some DM from my bank who are willing to pay me £25 for every person I recommend who opens an account with them; they'll give the new account holder £25 too. Who's up for it? ;)
