pushing the SRC2496 to the MAX possible sound quality in D/A function

What things do i need to mod in order to push the src 2496 to the max possible SQ as D/A purpose? Now in my mind is,

    1. Ak4396 Dac
    2. Burson Opamp in D/A
    3. Replace clock unit( might be burson clock)
    4. Toroidal transformer
    5. Recap all capacitors with rubycon
    6. replace internal voltage regulator.

can i add extra analog RCA output? because i dun use XLR...

Do you think it can equal with high end $3000usd DAC?

a stock src sounded better than the original benchmark dac 1.....in my opinion and the owners

    mods

don't forget to use low noise diodes in the rectification

think hard about the coupling caps ...use the best you can afford ie an silver in oil....you'd be amazed at how little music gets through your average electrolyti

are rubycons the best choice ?

be warned that the src board and tracks is very fragile ...and does not like to be messed with .

my modded src recenly died ...but it did only cosy me £50 plus £20 parts ....several others that I've worked on are still going strong...

I was just commenting that Zanash's sounded very good.

I don't know electronics well enough to comfrim your own ideas.

With Zanash's guidence I fell sure you will be pleased....but do watch that curcuit board.

Don't change the clock. I have experimented with clock changes on Behringer stuff and the results are rather nasty.

You can also cut out some of the op-amps if you are happy with a single ended output. If you look on my site on the right hand side of the page, you will see the output schematic for the Behrigner stuff. http://www.audiosmile.com/src.htm

You can take the signal from the output of C43, although this is the part numbers for the DEQ but the design is the same for the SRC output. It should get you a bit better sound.

    So what is your opinion?

So can you tell me your opinion that allows me to push SRC2496 to highest quality as possible? If yes, can you tell me more detail?

2nd question, can i run my US bought SRC2496 in 230V by changing the fuses? this is important to me.

    Hi,

You mean can I tell you how to get the very best from the SRC? Well, if you read my website you will see what I do to the SRC, I think this is the best way to modify it. However, I can not tell you exactly step-by-step how to make these changes as this is my trade, and I partly make my living from the work. If you wish me to modify your unit for you, then just email me for a quote.

You can not use the US 110V volt SRC in the UK with 230V unless you change the transformer wiring. It has dual primary windings IIRC. You need to use the other primary winding for 230V. But do not change any mains wiring unless you know what you are doing or you could be hurt.

The DCX and the DEQ on the other hand have 'universal' power supplies that auto-detect the voltage.

Yes I think so. Or you could use a voltage converter.

To make sure it is working right you could unplug the transformer outputs from the SRC board so it doesn't blow up if you got it wrong.
